Guest buckeroo2 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Quite often these stalls are owned by the same people. Have you ever seen the series of about 15 or so fruit stands, one after another, out on the highways? All owned by the same people. That's the most likely reason why all three CD stalls disappeared overnight. Just why they disappeared is anybody's guess, but you definitely lucked out . . . for the time being. Well, I had a 2 day respite - all 3 CD stalls are all back - I am thinking that maybe the police have them a 2 day time out for the loud noise - I already called 1337 tonight - the music is so loud - And blowing cigar smoke at the bird is not an option - I would have to trespass and climb a ladder to get close enough to the cage to blow cigar smoke in the bird's direction. The condo manager has assured me that the bird will be isaan bound by Feb 14 - so I am in a holding pattern until then. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Here's one that happened last night. There's a big sign outside a bar listing the prices. We order beers and they charge a different price. I question the price and they say the price has changed but they didn't get around to changing the big sign yet. Quote

Guest Astrrro Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Just one of the thousands of little bars in Pattaya, I forget the name but don't worry you'd probably never stumble accross it TOQ. Not a gay bar, the clientelle seems to be Thai ladies getting drunk before freelancing on Walking Street. As i say I forget the name but if you see a big yellow sign in English that says 25 baht for small Changs and 40 for large Changs that's the place. They charged 50 baht which would have been fine with me if not for the sign. So we went accross the tiny soi and sat on plastic chairs at minimart and had 30 baht Leos. Quote
Gaybutton Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 They charged 50 baht which would have been fine with me if not for the sign. So we went across the tiny soi and sat on plastic chairs at minimart and had 30 baht Leos. Why didn't you ask the owner or manager why they have a sign that says one price, and then inside they charge you another price? If I was told that they hadn't gotten around to changing their sign, I would have said that's your problem, paid the amount advertised on their sign, and walked out the door. If they gave me any flack about it I would have said I'll be glad to call the police and let you explain to them why I should pay one baht more than your advertised price. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Why didn't you ask the owner or manager why they have a sign that says one price, and then inside they charge you another price? Actually, I thought I overreacted by getting a bit huffy instead of smiling at waitress when discussing the matter. I showed my displeasure for sure. When dealing with small amounts of money I believe harmony trumps principle. So I lost the battle but much worse would be if I got the shit kicked out of me for 50 baht. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Sorry to be late to this thread, but on the issue of ear plugs, have you thought of going to a sports store and purchasing the ear plugs many swimmers use? I don't know if they're available in Thailand, but I've worn them in the US and they are not uncomfortable and can be used repeatedly. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 That's the problem I had with ice cream at the newest diner on Thrappaya Rd. The menu said one price and when I got the bill they were charging a much higher price. I simply refused to pay the higher price. I was polite yet firm. Quote
Gaybutton Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 The menu said one price and when I got the bill they were charging a much higher price. What was their excuse for charging a higher price when the other price was right on their menu? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 The waitress said, "Big ice cream", which it was, but that wasn't the point. We went back one time to check out the rest of the menu and saw the ice cream was priced at 60 per scoop. The other prices were equally outrageous. We left without ordering. Quote
Gaybutton Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 The other prices were equally outrageous. We left without ordering. I believe that diner already went out of business. Maybe that's why. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I thought it was out of business too, but sometimes when I pass there the lights are on and it appears to be open. Quote
