Guest fountainhall Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I can say one good thing about Christianity, and to a lesser extent Judaism, in that it can change interpretations when reality changes. For example, when we find out that the earth goes around the sun, rather then the other way around, the bible and the text can be reinterpreted to fit reality. Ahem! Aren't there a lot of people and quite a few states in the USA who have gone back to the theory of creation and believe Charles Darwin wrote a load of horseshit? They have even found a date when God created the world. I believe it was around 4,500 years or so ago - give or take a few hundred years. Odd that they are zillions of years out of date!! One problem with all religions is that they have real trouble keeping up with the advance of science. They may change their thinking, but it usually takes centuries of dogmatic denial and probably the execution of many 'heretics' before they do their about turn. Now there's a debate topic to set the Board alight!! Quote
Guest shebavon Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 "I doubt Bush would have gotten the authority to star the Iraq fiasco without 9/11 happening. And, doesn't Cheney have an Israeli passport? " Slacker, What does any of that have to do with the argument you are attempting to make? If I remember correctly, Mr. Cheney being the Vice President of the US had a DIPLOMATIC PASSPORT. Before that he ran Halliburton, and given his connections with the Oil states and big oil, would not have found an Israeli passport very useful. Quote

I believe Hinduism and Buddhism are quite a bit more resilient to changing times than any of the big 3 western religions. Though Krishna, The man of blue color? I do have a problem with that one. Gaybutton Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man who lives in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. - George Carlin Quote
Guest shebavon Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Though Hinduism and Buddhism teach that God is within you, and not that external Sadist with a wicked sense of humor. Quote
