billyhouston Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 US Government puts Thailand on Level 4: Do not travel. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/thailand-travel-advisory.html I imagine that the UK will follow shortly. Quote

I hope the UK does not follow, as the number of active cases in Thailand is below the UK level (Wordmeters). However, there are clear incentives for people to avoid tests in Thailand, so I guess the figure could be seriously under reported. Of course, the current severity of the pandemic in Thailand is far worse due to low vaccination rates, but that's not a concern for fully vaccinated travelers. If it happens, official advice not to travel to Thailand would be rather inconvenient, as all of the standard travel insurance policies sold in the UK would become invalid. In the event that I wanted to travel to Thailand and such advice was in place, I would of course make my own decision on the risks and then search for insurance that would be valid. If anyone has any recommendations, please share. If not, I'm sure google will solve the problem. The $100k covid insurance ought to be valid, however I still prefer to have a proper travel insurance policy. Of course, to ignore any UK advice, I'd need to see a clear decline in cases in Thailand and a relaxation of rules closing certain businesses. Quote
billyhouston Posted August 10, 2021 Author Posted August 10, 2021 As the number of cases there increases, Phuket is closing down more and more places, making it even less attractive as a Sandbox. There are Thai companies which provide 'incoming' travel insurance. As you say, Google is your friend. Quote

I can't find any exclusions based on travel bans/warnings. There are a lot of other exclusions, but better than nothing. It should be possible to use a local Thai health insurance if you don't care about repatriation flights etc and that the contract will be for unlimited time and you will have to cancel it in a separate step. Last winter I bought the official Covid insurance and then had to cancel it again due to external circumstances. The insurance was issued by dhipaya.co.th, the website currently doesnt seem to work but I can PM you an email adress if you want to contact them - they should have "expat like" health insurances as well. That is the insurance I used last winter & it does not have any exclusions for UK travel bans. However, I also had a "proper" insurance policy, with more extensive cover for non-covid issues & would ideally do the same again. Quote
