Nespresso

I put this in the beer bar as I find I use this company wherever I am. In the USA, Africa, Asia.. I love the ease of delivery and getting the different flavors. I have given the machines to every family member and they also love them. In Thailand, they do have stores in the major malls and they are easy to walk in an get. But, I order more from the store than anywhere. Others use this?

They have been marketing very aggressively here in the USA. Magazines, billboards, you name it. I am a little "old school" - I prefer to grind my own beans and make it fresh at home, but they sure seem popular. Have to admit that I really enjoy the smell of freshly made coffee - it just fills up the house - you don't quite get that from these machines. Don't you think?

 

I first came across Nespresso while traveling in Europe where they also have stores in malls so you can pick up pods.  The one thing I would point out is that they have not made much inroads into the corporate marketplace. I haven't seen them in any office buildings where I have been for visits or work meetings.  In that regard Keurig still seems to be king.

Discovering new beans as I travel is a favorite pastime, and I've culled quite a collection over the years. I realize that Nespresso is popular, but so is Jake Paul. And until he does porn, I won't be watching him. When I consider the materials used to create the packaging of Nespresso products, I think of extreme waste product. I'm not a serious tree hugger, but I think Nespresso is not great for the planet.

I used a keurig for a while, but the expense and waste added up, so I went back to just making pots of coffee.

I think part of it for me was there are lots of fun drinks you can make with the keurig and the zillion kinds of pods you can get, but as I've been working on my health (and cutting back empty calories), I've come to appreciate simple black coffee.

Yeah, I also prefer to grind fresh beans and use a traditional espresso machine.

Big fan of Nespresso! My favorite pod is probably the double espresso Chiaro. It’s one of their basic flavors but it reminds me of espresso from a cafe (but at home). I whip up a dollop of heavy cream to go on top. 
 

Also, they have a recycling program for used pods, so that helps a little with the waste.

Another fan of Nespresso. Over the years I have experimented with various ways of making coffee in the morning. I now find Nespresso just so easy and the variety of flavours is growing all the time.

I had never heard of it until I used a ton of Marriott points to stay in their wonderful Bill Bensley designed hotel on the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc two years ago. This lovely island is actually tucked under Cambodia with Sihanoukville as the nearest town. But from Vietnam it's best to get there by plane or ferry from Ho Chi Minh City. Pre-pandemic there was also a Bangkok Airways daily flight from Bangkok. The hotel is set on its own glorious private beach!

My favourites are the Fortissio Lungo and one from their more recent Italian range, Inspirazione Venezia.

I have one I bought when I was working in another town, but now that I'm back home I haven't set it up yet.  My Tassimo still works and the pods are cheaper.  But Tassimo is on the decline so when the machine breaks or I can't find the pods I like I'll switch to Nespresso.  

Both Tassimo and Nespresso are head and shoulders above Keurig because they're capable of actually pressure and don't taste like you dribbled hot water through a couple grains of coffee inside melting plastic...  

Another benefit to Nespresso is the all-metal pods are very recyclable and the company helps with that directly.  Compared to everybody "wishcycling" their other pods and probably just contaminating other recyclables.  

Of course a grinder and espresso machine is even better, but the Nespresso comes close enough for me.  I like to make a red-eye or two every morning (coffee plus a shot of espresso) and it's a bit expensive with Nespresso but tastes good.  And even if you just like a simple cup of coffee, the Virtuo pod line has a lot of selections, very easy, and really does taste better than Keurig.  

The only benefit Keurig has is price/availability.

Nespresso is better than Tassimo and Keurig but can't match the taste of fresh grind of whole beans and a pull with a espresso machine.  Recently purchased a super-automatic espresso. Very pleased with it.
