You or someone else linked to that short story on the MC I think.  I read it and liked it.  Normally when a gay guy wins the Man Booker I rush to read his novel, his style doesn't grab me so it will be awhile, and anyway currently, I'm loving The Deviant's War.

Was a unanimous winner, though I'm curious why that would be known.

I read Alan Hollinghurst's The Thin Line of Beauty which won.  Were there other gay winners?

Hollinghurst is a genius.

Another of course is Edmund White. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/07/24/books/edmund-white-a-saint-from-texas.amp.html%3f0p19G=0232

And, probably my favorite, Andrew Holleran. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Holleran

I have not read any of Holleran, but have read Edmund White.   One of his includes an account of the Stonewall riots.  Interesting!

What is the MC you refer to?

What was it about The Englishman you liked if the style turned you off?

I am an avid reader of books. I looked forward very much to reading Shuggie Bain, but when I finally got the book, I found that it was mostly unreadable.  It's very bleak reading.

Nothing about the style of his short story (I haven't read The Englishman) turned me off, it just wasn't a particularly captivating style like say Colm Toibin or Dennis Cooper.  I will read The Englishman.

The MC:

p.s. I'm fairly certain Colm Toibin won the prize one year, a phenomenal gay writer.
