Guest MonkeySee Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 How sad this sort of thing still happens and in America, the land of the free. NEW YORK – An Ecuadorean immigrant was declared brain dead after being savagely beaten by attackers who shouted anti-gay and anti-Hispanic slurs at him and his brother, who were walking arm in arm, a law enforcement official said Tuesday. Jose Sucuzhanay, 31, was still clinging to life following brain surgery at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, said one of his brothers, Diego. "He's not dead. There are some decisions that need to be taken. We are brothers and we do not have the power to make that decision," Diego Sucuzhanay said, adding that their parents in Ecuador were involved in the decision. But the law enforcement official told The Associated Press that Jose Sucuzhanay had been declared brain dead and that a death certificate had been signed. He spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation continues. Jose Sucuzhanay and another of his brothers were attacked in Brooklyn as they walked arm in arm early Sunday after attending a church party and visiting a bar. One attacker jumped out of the SUV, used the anti-gay slur and smashed one of the brothers over the head with a bottle, authorities said. As the 38-year-old brother ran away, three men exited the vehicle and joined the assault, police said. One hit Jose Sucuzhanay in the head with the bat while the others kicked him. At some point, the other brother returned holding a cell phone and told the men he had called police. The attackers then drove off, according to police. The four assailants were being sought Tuesday. Police were investigating the attack as a hate crime. The district attorney, elected officials, and members of the Hispanic and gay communities have expressed outrage over the attack. Guest Astrrro Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 It's unclear if the poor soul attacked in Bushwick was even gay. The New York Times puts more of an anti-Latino spin on the story but chooses to omit whether the attackers are white or black (similar to when someone is raped and sodomized we are not informed by the Times whether it's oral or anal sodomy, not trivial since anal rape is arguably more vicious than oral rape). Al Sharpton's group offered a reward which suggests that the attackers are white though Sharpton could possibly be reaching for Hispanic support by offering a reward even if the clearly out of bounds attackers are known to be black. According to the NY Daily News, the mob who attacked were Black thugs screaming anti-gay and anti-hispanic epithets. Kudos to Sharpton, rather than attack is warranted here. He is not running for public office, merely taking Alan Colmes spot on Hannity & Sharpton. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 What difference does it make whether the attackers were white or black? They are below contempt and need to be caught and severely punished. Quote
KhorTose Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 What difference does it make whether the attackers were white or black? They are below contempt and need to be caught and severely punished. It makes no difference at all. I completely agree that they are just comtemptable thugs. The only good thing is that, in this day and age, the papers report it as a hate crime, and the police actively look for the perpetrators, and, when caught, they are convicted. I so remember only 30 or fourty years ago when the whole thing would have just disappeared, with no one in authority doing anything about a crime like this. Quote
