Members Latbear4blk Posted August 22, 2020 Members Posted August 22, 2020 I just watched the first episode of this new HBO series. Very promising. Just drooling for Jonathan Majors makes it worthy to watch, but it is a very well written, performed, and produced TV. I wish HBO followed Netflix model and released the whole series at once. Did Jonathan Majors have a supporting role in "Da 5 Bloods.". The name is very familiar. Good film. Latbear4blk 1 Quote

Good film. Yes, sir. But here, he is almost always in the screen, and almost always showing his beautiful upper torso shirtless, or very lightly dressed. Buddy2 1 Quote
Members JKane Posted August 24, 2020 Author Members Posted August 24, 2020 I caught up on Umbrella Academy. Enjoyed it, most say S2 was better than S1 but it seemed a touch more boring for me. Really missed Cha Cha and Hazel. Latbear4blk 1 Quote
Members Latbear4blk Posted August 28, 2020 Members Posted August 28, 2020 Have you seen this, guys? If you are into science fiction, and Ridley Scott, you are probably biting your fingers as I am. I cannot wait. Quote
Members JKane Posted August 28, 2020 Author Members Posted August 28, 2020 I've been meaning to subscribe to HBO Max, Raised By Wolves will probably make me do it! Though I also want to see Doom Patrol, and the HBO staples like Jon Oliver. Latbear4blk 1 Quote

Members gqg99 Posted August 29, 2020 Members Posted August 29, 2020 Lovecraft Country looks amazing. I'm looking forward to it. Quote
Members JKane Posted September 8, 2020 Author Members Posted September 8, 2020 So I watched all of Doom Patrol. It is very unique, not very super-hero-y, some humor and pathos, kinda slow moving, fair amount of LGBT content (my favorite character is Gary) though a bit idiotic to keep Matt Bomer wrapped in bandages most of the time!!! Also caught up on Jon Oliver. For some reason (drunk but NOT DRUNK ENOUGH) I watched the Birds of Prey (Harley Quinn) movie. DO NOT RECOMMEND. FOR ANYBODY, except maybe an enemy. Liking the options on HBO Max, seems worth it, will eventually start Raised by Wolves. But first I wanted to watch The Boys over on Amazon Prime. First episode seemed mostly slow and pointless. Also finally got around to Knives Out. Pretty good, though that accent (why was Daniel Craig channeling Kevin Spacey?!) was stupid and the stuff related to the center of the story was obviously all wrong. Quote
ralph12294 Posted October 3, 2020 Posted October 3, 2020 Difficult People is a criminally underrated show. You should check it out Quote

I just watched episode 9. I cried like a baby. After the scarring #8, this one was sad and painful. Definitely, my favorite show this year so far and by far. The only thing where I find anything to improve is some of the acting. But it is not a distraction when the story is so well narrated and the content is so meaningful and engaging. Buddy2 1 Quote
Members jayplaysf Posted October 15, 2020 Members Posted October 15, 2020 About halfway through the Lovecraft Country book here, might need to check out the series. Latbear4blk and Buddy2 2 Quote
TotallyOz Posted October 25, 2020 Posted October 25, 2020 The Queens Gambit on Netflix was very enjoyable. I watched the entire thing this weekend and thought it was excellent! numerito 1 Quote
Members numerito Posted October 25, 2020 Members Posted October 25, 2020 Thanks for your recommendation, @TotallyOz. I placed The Queen’s Gambit on my bucket’s list yesterday, and I was planning to start watching it tonight. TotallyOz 1 Quote

Members Pete1111 Posted November 20, 2020 Members Posted November 20, 2020 (edited) IMO, a winner. DASH & LILY, on Netflix. Plenty of positive buzz on the Internet. A good choice after binging Queen's Gambit. Edited November 20, 2020 by Pete1111 punct. Quote
Members JKane Posted December 19, 2020 Author Members Posted December 19, 2020 Watched Ma Rainey's Black Bottom yesterday. It's something, especially knowing that Chadwick is dying as you watch, which is hard to separate from the content. His acting is stunning but it just seems like too much in this short a space to me. Everything about it is just unpleasant. Everybody is sweaty and pissed off, the amount of drama during a quick recording session is ridiculous. It just keeps beating you over the head with the message that these bad old times were bad. Kinda knew that. The music is interesting but less than you'd expect. Quote
Members JKane Posted December 24, 2020 Author Members Posted December 24, 2020 Enjoyed Superintelligence, charming and witty exactly opposite of most McCarthy movies. Quote
TotallyOz Posted December 24, 2020 Posted December 24, 2020 I finally watched in the Line of Duty and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quote
Members Pete1111 Posted December 25, 2020 Members Posted December 25, 2020 Mentioned on the Christmas thread, I can confirm Guthrie Theater A Christmas Carol is quite good. The $10 price is a deal! I'll watch again. https://www.guthrietheater.org/shows-and-tickets/2020-2021-season/dickens-holiday-classic/ Quote

Members JKane Posted December 30, 2020 Author Members Posted December 30, 2020 So I've now watched Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max... WW1984 is downright BAD. It shits all over the continuity and writing of the first movie. Throws in new bullshit all over the place and just accomplishes nothing. Quote
Members JKane Posted December 30, 2020 Author Members Posted December 30, 2020 Also watched The Midnight Sky on Netflix... Well, it perfectly captures 2020 at least. It is gorgeous, ponderous (many say slow), and interesting. But I wouldn't say I'm better or happier for having watched it. Quote

Sorry, I wanted to like it and I watched it.but, like you, I am not sure I am happier for watching it. It was about as blah as I could watch. I just finished Vikings Season 6, the final 10 episodes and they were lovely. I loved the story and the conclusion. Quote
