PattayaMale Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Since it has been several years since I bought ME a new mobile phone I thought I might try the promotion on Truemove. You can get a new iphone and pay monthly 1399 which includes 1000 baht for the phone and 399 for all the services. A 24 month commitment is necessary. I think this may be a good deal BUT many farangs maybe prevented from getting the promotion because you must have a credit card from either Kasikorn or Bangkok Bank. I tried to use my ATM card from Kasikorn Bank but it did not work. I may go in and see if I can qualify for a credit card, but I think in the past the said expats even on a retirement visa could not get one. Don't know. Does anyone been able to get one here without a work permit? Quote
Guest MonkeySee Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Does anyone been able to get one here without a work permit? I have a Visa/ATM card from Kasikorn Bank. It has the visa logo on it but it is used more like a debit card. I think I pay a yearly fee of 200 baht for it. I do not have a work permit. You might ask your friendly Kasikorn Banker about it. Guest jtrack33 Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Some one on this board recently said that they had got a credit card or at least been offered one either by Kasikorn or HSBC if they were prepared to make a fixed deposit. I tried that with bangkok bank some years ago and they said no...even with a condo title document. they would prefer(or rather the Central Bank tells them) to trust a farang with a work permit only...who could quite easily skip the country...unlike a person with a deposit and/or condo title! But is Bht24,000 plus the interest that would have been earned, a fair price to pay for an iFone? Quote
Gaybutton Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 I have a Visa/ATM card from Kasikorn Bank. It has the visa logo on it but it is used more like a debit card. What you have is a debit card. They call it the Visa Electron card. It can be used as a Visa card for purchases, but it is actually only a debit card, not the same as a credit card. Quote
PattayaMale Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 I went to Kasikorn Bank to check about a credit card for a farang with out a work permit. They said I could get one if I paid 100,000 baht guarantee. I would put 100,000 baht into an account and leave the bank book with them. I would then get a credit card good for 30,000 baht. I did not like the deal so I passed. Tomorrow I will go to bangkok bank and see about having my pension electronically transfer each month to their bank. I believe this will let me have a credit card of a small amount. I am not doing all of this just for a iphone. It was the iphone promotion that made me think about doing it though. Quote
