caeron Posted March 20, 2020 Posted March 20, 2020 Yeah, I have to admit all the business emails with their carefully curated caring make me want to puke. I used to write that shit for a living, so I know desperate attempts at relevancy when I see them. Just shut up and go away. Come back when things change and it's time to re-engage. Nobody needs to hear from you right now. Quote

Almost as deflating as very bad breath. 13 hours ago, caeron said: Just shut up and go away. I don't think big business can afford to appear so callous. The domino effect is very real. If one corporation sends a compassion letter, then all must. They are often left with little choice, especially when most senior executives are absent any creative thought. 13 hours ago, caeron said: Nobody needs to hear from you right now. I was pleased when one of my banks wrote to say that some branches would be temporarily closed. The list included my branch. Not all compassion letters are without service to the customer. I belong to the school of thought: It's never a bad idea to remind your customer that you care about their well being. It does help if you mean it and the lip service is not obvious. For that, you need a good writer. Edited March 20, 2020 by RockHardNYC Quote
Members Buddy2 Posted March 20, 2020 Members Posted March 20, 2020 I realize small restaurant owners even in New York City are not used to talking on Television. But, they may eventually learn to not say "you know" several times in the same sentence. A very, very small complaint given the major crisis. Quote
Members RockHardNYC Posted March 20, 2020 Author Members Posted March 20, 2020 I live in a fairly large building (Co-op). Management just sent another update email. Governor Cuomo has issued another order. Essential building workers only. We have quite a large staff here. I'll bet half just lost their jobs. Also, all beauty, barber, nail, and facial salons have been ordered to close by tomorrow night. I suppose that means spas, too. That's a lot of people out of work, and most of those workers have no safety net. Quote
Members Latbear4blk Posted March 20, 2020 Members Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) Of course, it is always the less privileged who suffer the most. Not only all those workers without a safety net are being laid off. Besides, all the low wages essential workers have to keep working for two cents and face the risk of getting infected while better paid workers stay at home teleworking. Plus the thousands (millions?) of kids attending public schools who will not receive any education for months, widening the gap with more affluent students. I am glad my charter school improvised a distance learning plan that has worked effectively this first week of lock down. It was just made official in DC, the schools will stay closed at least until April 27th. Edited March 20, 2020 by Latbear4blk Buddy2 1 Quote
Members RockHardNYC Posted March 21, 2020 Author Members Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) Another email from building management this morning. Apparently, our package delivery room is overflowing and they want it emptied asap. (My household checks for packages every three hours because I run a tight ship.) Management claims that officials have told them that COVID-19 can remain alive on the surface of cardboard for up to twenty-four hours. But that is no guarantee. Management is spraying all packages delivered, and they are trying to reduce the number of delivery people who enter the building. I have a personal contact at the N.I.H., so I plan to ask about this cardboard thing. If true, more people should know about it, since a lot more people are relying on deliveries now. I was out early this morning and I saw a handsome UPS guy delivering to another building in my hood. He had no mask on and no gloves. Not sure what these guys are thinking, and I wonder how informed they are. Edited March 21, 2020 by RockHardNYC Quote

That's what he does to deflect blame. No one is denying the truth about where the virus likely originated. The truth is: the virus could have originated from numerous places. "Wet markets" exist all over the world. "The consensus among researchers studying the spread of the virus pinpoints COVID-19’s likely origin to a “wet market,” or live animal market, in Wuhan, China. The origin theory for the virus is supplemented by preliminary research into the disease’s genome, as well as the origins of similar diseases. Researchers at the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre published the genome of COVID-19 two weeks after cases were reported in late December 2019. Gene sequencing analysis strongly suggests the virus originated in bats and was transferred to humans through a yet-unidentified intermediary species. In early February, Chinese researchers published work suggesting the intermediary species may have been the pangolin (also called a scaly anteater), though this work has not yet undergone a peer-reviewed study." 2 hours ago, RA1 said: Governor Cuomo is a political hack. Members Latbear4blk Posted March 21, 2020 Members Posted March 21, 2020 The delivery options are tempting. Restaurants in DC are waiving the delivery fee, so you just pay for Uber’s. Fortunately, so far I have been able to resist. I am cooking. I actually realized the issue two days ago, when I went to the supermarket and the salad bar and the hot food buffet were out of order. Pizzas were pre-boxed and pastries and bread pre-bagged. I want to support delivery services and restaurants, but until we know more, I am trying to cook as much as possible. Quote
Members Buddy2 Posted March 21, 2020 Members Posted March 21, 2020 Governor Cuomo is not for everyone.. Chris Cuomo is more emotional and emphatic. But he has more time to get acquainted on CNN with guests who have suffered tragic family losses because of coronavirus. Andrew Cuomo is more serious than Trump and unlike the president doesn't moved around and seem bored when someone else is talking. I understand Trump is trying, but he apparently can't change after a lifetime of putting himself first. boiworship 1 Quote

Members RockHardNYC Posted March 22, 2020 Author Members Posted March 22, 2020 (edited) As mentioned above, Maureen Dowd speaks to Dr. Anthony Fauci about dealing with Trump. She has known Dr. Fauci since the mid-80's AIDS crisis. Thank God the Doctor Is In. Peeking out our windows, we see America shriveling. "Trump is just a petrified salesman who believes in perception over reality. He thinks if he can create the perception that this is going to be a quick fix and there’s a little pill coming, then the stock market will roar back, along with his 2020 momentum. With F.D.R. and the Great Depression, the only thing to fear was fear itself. With Trump and our new abyss, we have to fear not only fear but also the ignorance and misdirection of the White House and the profiteering of senators. Not to mention the virus."
