Members Coogee Posted January 9, 2020 Members Posted January 9, 2020 What is the legal age in Brazil, 18 or 16? There is a very cute young guy working at one of the barracas at Copacabana who has been constantly flirting with me. He looks like he could be in his early twenties, but when I asked him , he told he will be 18 in February! I don’t want to do anything wrong, so I am keeping my fingers away ! The least I want to happen is to be locked up in jail or be a target for blackmail . Any advice? Quote
TotallyOz Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 The age is 18. For Americans traveling abroad it is also 18 no matter what country you are in. Do not engage this individual or jail is a possibility. zazzu and Badboy81 2 Quote
Members msclelovr Posted January 9, 2020 Members Posted January 9, 2020 Speaking generally, Latin Americans usually carry photo ID on them. In some countries, it’s a legal requirement. So it’s very easy to assure yourself of a guy’s age by asking to see his ID. A request to see ID is not unusual - indeed many hotels will insist upon visitors showing ID before they gain access to a guest’s room. I found in Argentina that young men were rather keen on me (and my big fat wallet) and this request to see their ID prevented any problem. zazzu 1 Quote
Members zazzu Posted January 9, 2020 Members Posted January 9, 2020 Agreed. If you are a US citizen, it doesn't matter what the legal age is elsewhere - 18yo is the youngest you can play with. If there's a place where the legal age is 19/20yo etc., then go by those local laws. Otherwise, always 18 or older. Badboy81 1 Quote
Members Riobard Posted January 9, 2020 Members Posted January 9, 2020 (edited) I am happy to admit being wrong, but the age of consent is 14, and at age 14 any age-gap exemptions are no longer in place or relevant legally. HOWEVER, “seduction”, images considered remotely pornographic, and enabling prostitution of a person under 18, are explicitly prosecutable. It would be prudent to wait to 18 and verify age. I am not American and will have to see what my nation’s requirements abroad are. I have never checked because children are of no interest to me. Edited January 9, 2020 by Riobard Quote
Members Riobard Posted January 9, 2020 Members Posted January 9, 2020 OK, age of consent in my nation is 16, but the law applies both locally and internationally in terms of interaction considered exploitive (younger than 18) ... prostitution transaction, use of images, older party in position of authority, etc. However, a Brazilian of any adult age appears to have more latitude with a sexual partner 14 and older. Perhaps this yields more general precociousness and young people are not aware of imperilling adult tourists (that should know better anyway). 18 it is, then, without undo delay. Quote
Members Riobard Posted January 9, 2020 Members Posted January 9, 2020 Brazil is Catholic where life commences at conception (May 2002), but I would not push such a convoluted argument. Quote
Members Bucknaway1614502762 Posted January 10, 2020 Members Posted January 10, 2020 I was talking to a Grindr guy in Rio who told me he was 18. I said great! Bring your ID or the hotel won't let you up... That was a lie but he admitted he was 16 and wanted to know my hotel because he may know it and could get to the room without trouble. I had to end up blocking him. It's too many guys in Rio , don't risk your freedom on an orgasm. In Thailand there was a underage guy thought to be working with police to extort the guys he met got sex. zazzu and Badboy81 2 Quote

Similar cases of extortion have occurred in Buenos Aires. There attractive 15-16 year old sons have been pimped out by their families; the older man faces the choice of paying up or the family reporting it to the police. The cases I heard of all centered on attractive young guys approaching older men in the bathrooms at Retiro, the bus and train station. Quote
Members Riobard Posted January 11, 2020 Members Posted January 11, 2020 Plenty of options, with a very uniquely substantial proportional population share age 18-39 ... Quote
Members Walker Posted January 12, 2020 Members Posted January 12, 2020 (edited) I am only intersted in 20 - 24. Edited January 12, 2020 by Walker Quote
Members DustinDawns Posted January 13, 2020 Members Posted January 13, 2020 Not that I am advocating for anyone to engage in sex with anyone under 18, however, the restriction for U.S. citizens pertains to prostitution specifically. It is illegal for a U.S. citizen to *pay* anyone under 18 for sex regardless of country or local law. Quote
