Guest GaySacGuy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 The Thai Air service was very poor during the airport closures, and it isn't getting any better. I had two flights (roundtrip Ubon to Bangkok) that were cancelled during the airport closures. Now 30 days later I still have no refund on my credit card. To make matters worse, there seems to be no way to contact Thai air. Their number that said "try your call later" all during the closures, now just provided a busy signal...forever. Their service in the air is quite good at Thai, but there service to the flyer on the ground sucks!! Quote
PattayaMale Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I flew to China on Thai Air. I made my reservation about 4 months in advance and paid with my credit card which they gladly accepted. When I went to the Thai Air counter to check in on the day of my flight I presented all my paper work and the credit card I used to book the flight. The credit card had expired 4 days earlier. They said I would have to buy another ticket at the higher fare. I explained that the already had the money from the transaction. I asked them why they check the credit card that I used and they said it was to make sure the credit card was actually mine. I explained that if I had it it must be mine since the information on my passport, e- ticket, and credit card was the same. Well it didn't matter so I paid the higher fare and then they said I had to be assigned another seat. I asked why and they said because the seat I had been reserved has someone sitting in it. I asked if that person had the same name as me. They checked and said yes. I stood in silence for a minute and asked if they thought I was going to sit in 2 different seats? After the trip was over I went to customer service and explained what I just wrote above and said I wanted a refund since I had paid twice. They called over a supervisor who was very nice and she agreed that what had happened was unusual. Then she asked which ticket I wanted refunded. The cheaper ticket or the more expensive one. I didn't think I would have a choice but I selected the more expensive ticket. 6 weeks later as promised my credit card was finally credited. Quote

Guest lvdkeyes Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Then she asked which ticket I wanted refunded. The cheaper ticket or the more expensive one. This is just too laughable to be true, but knowing Thais, I am sure it is. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I've always had good experiences with Thai. The flight staff is friendlier than on American carriers. The 17 hour non-stop from JFK was great! RIP Quote

I have occasionally had to tour cellists on various airlines. This requires an extra ticket to be purchased in the same class as the player/passenger. On several airlines, the musician has asked for the second meal since a second seat had been paid for in full. This has always been denied!! I have always failed to see the reason. Quote

Seriously, this type of service is not confined to Thai Air. I have noticed over and over again that no Thai is willing to make a decision when confronted by something not clearly in the rules. Give them a rule and common sense goes out the window. They are told just to obey and never taught to think for themselves. You can get fired for making a mistake, but you will not be fired for blindly enforcing the rules. Customer service is not a consideration. Quote

But surely if a seat has been purchased with cold, hard cash - even for an instrument - the 'occupant' of that seat is entitled to what everyone else gets? Or do you think there is something in the rule book that meals, even if one has been loaded into the galley, are only to be provided for humans? Quote
Guest xiandarkthorne Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Why do you think after seven years of flying with them, I finally lost all patience and gave up? I absolutely refuse to flay Thai Air now. Quote
Jason1988 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I don't fly Thai Air from the USA. The Thais are always cold and they keep the plane's temperature too hot for my taste. On the other hand, Northwest has it so cold you need a couple blankets. Quote
