Mykonos....OHHHH Mykonos

Leaving Mykonos darker, lighter in the wallet and in LOVE with the island...

First timer and I came for Excelsior and I should have came YEARS ago...

Love Circuit In Barcelona and Pride in Madrid but Mykonos with the raw beauty....ease of getting around the island and TONS of hot guys from all over...

Will be back again and again....

This island just knocked Barcelona out of my top 3 cities, now she's #4...

The food, natural scenery, and the crowds of HOT GAY MEN....

If you havent been to Mykonos, I highly recommend coming...

A few notes-

Mykonos is expensive by most European standards but you can find drinks and dinner specials...

The island is FULL of fit, attractive people...locals and tourists....Its the "place " to be seen and maybe its the diet but the Island as a whole has very attractive eye candy...

Its pretty easy to get around the place IF you rent a car, scooter or ATV...which I highly recommend...there are only maybe 30 taxis on the island, from what I read...

The beaches....PICK ONE...do you want hot people...gay included...do you want to lounge and relax...do you want to just enjoy beautiful water....

All of the beaches are top notch and I managed to go check them all out while I was on the island...

Clubs are mainly in Mykonos town or at the beaches unless you are on the island for an event...Again, the island isn't very large and very easy to get around

'GAY FRIENDLY!!!  I know its historically been extremely but they are GAY friendly as hell...from the hotel staff to the bar staff to the shopkeepers and they should be...Gay spend money...BUT they were overall majority helpful and nice...

Would love to hear your feedback if you have been to Mykonos...

Thank you. Mykonos is on my hit list for 2020. What hotel did you stay at? What are your favourite beaches? What is the most desirable area to stay in? How difficult is it to get around the island? I don’t drive and don’t intend to take up cycling. You said that is now number 3 of your favourite destinations, out of interest what is 1 and 2? Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi, did you mean XLSIOR rather than Excelsior as you wrote?

I am familiar with the large XLSIOR gay party that is held each year (since 2009) and is currently in progress until August 28 that is called XLSIOR.

If XLSIOR is the correct name, I hope you enjoy what the events and all the island has to offer.

Just to confirm, you really like what is found in Mykonos more than you like Rio and Clube 117?

I’m glad you had a great time @Badboy81 I’d just add to your comment on the prices on the island that it is VERY expensive, more costly than even in prime spots in the South of France.

I agree that the island is extremely gay-friendly, but it’s no longer primarily a gay resort. It is nowadays just as popular with a straight crowd, so a lot of the male eye-candy is heterosexual. I only went once and that was with an attractive younger companion; my impression was that the buff men were interested in other buff men; and there were very few working guys - I chatted to one (a fit young Brazilian) who was there as a vacation-rental by an older man.

There are dozens of hot built providers go-funding their XLsior week, including a few Brazilians in Europe, even a gogo who recently travelled to Barcelona (I have shared a private shower with at 117), and a Brazilian circuit dancer/provider based in Spain ... who likely has nonadvertising connections willing to get down.

If you are older, fairly flush yet not loaded with a yacht, and not with friends or a straight holiday toy, I imagine the "circuit" would not be the greatest experience and the party atmosphere on a cloistered brothel island might be more likely to leave you uncomfortably labelled and stereotyped by working guys you hire because they tend to congregate together and gossip.

If you don't need to T-dance your ass off with your clothes on, and prefer to sleep restfully, better off taking a guy to an idyllic low-key setting.

You describe it well @Riobard but then I have always thought that Circuit parties are for fit, muscled guys in the 25-35 age range to meet each other. Mykonos has always attracted that crowd and being much older, I wasn’t bothered. Interestingly enough I met there some good looking younger men (21-30) who were very dismissive of the gay steroidal overbuilt crowd (their terms).

I have some friends (more like acquaintances) who also attended XLsior in Mykonos this year. They enjoyed Mykonos but they also really like gay circuit parties. I, on the other hand, no longer really get into them. There is a large group of muscular, body boys who save up all of their coins to hit many of the gay circuit parties all over the globe. They do not all have sugar daddies — that is a myth — although some or many of them wish they did have them. Many of these “circuit gays” save up all of their money to go to these parties, to meet other circuit gays like them. They work out in gyms, diet and take drugs to get their bodies looking their absolute best for these circuit parties. A lot of them are also recreational drug users. These are the same kinds of circuit gays that fly to São Paulo and Rio, and can’t wait to party all night and day at The Week on Saturday (they also have little interest in the working boy saunas in Brazil, for the most part).

I agree that there are very few posters here who would feel they fit in at XLsior, or any of the other gay circuit parties for that matter. These tend to be very “body conscious” and “looks conscious” events. Assuming the average boytoy poster does not meet these strict physical standards, then the posters would probably not feel welcome —- and if they are economical travelers and buyers of sex, then their money would not go very far at all (often times, even the escorts who travel to these parties are unavailable for hire during these events). It is no different from the posters here, who love the payboy saunas, not feeling very comfortable at The Week in Rio or São Paulo — because of the loud, thriving, modern music, the late nights / early mornings, the recreational drug use, and all the shirtless hunks that are completely unavailable to or open to them.

To each his own. But this is most likely the wrong crowd for OP’s post.

Or they play that age on TV. Quite a few are well over that maximum age and are still “holding back the years”.

Very true @SolaceSoul Perhaps I should have said “claim to be 25-35”.

I have known personally 2 such men aged 42/45 yet claiming to be a decade younger. They worked relentlessly to maintain superb physiques. Each man had mental health issues as they aged and, unlike Cher, they could not “turn back time”.

There are tons of beaches...

The Best Mykonos Beaches
  1. Platis Gialos. Platis Gialos is the beach I stayed at most recently, which I absolutely loved. ...
  2. Elia Beach. If Super Paradise is the gay party beach, then Elia is the Mykonos gay beach for relaxation. ...
  3. Paradise Beach. ...
  4. Super Paradise Beach. ...
  5. Ornos Beach.

Mykonos Town is easiest to stay in but the island as a whole is small...So rent a scooter or hire a driver....

1. Brazil-Rio  2.  Bangkok-shopping and massages and food

Thanks for correcting the spelling but based on everything I typed, you figured out what I was talking about, especially based on me confirming the time...

Mykonos and Rio are two different things and can't be compared to me...

Depends on what you find expensive...It's relative...

I didn't find the food or getting around expensive since I didn't have a fancy dinner in Mykonos town or use private cars/taxis...I rented an ATV, stayed near Elia beach, had drinks at Paradise Beach and ate at various places around the island...

While Mykonos is much more expensive than Bangkok or Rio...it wasn't anymore expensive than Nice, Monaco or Madrid...

The whole island isn't gay of course, I can't think of anywhere that is..

I was there for a huge gay event so my changes are having another buff man interested in me was extremely high since I went to two gay parties and the gay beach...

I wasn't there looking for "working guys"....

Interesting feedback...

I can speak for myself....And my experiences...

I never had a sugar daddy sponsor any of my trips directly (I did have one help pay for my first townhome in college)and I didn't/don't have to save money to go on any of the trips I go on...Circuit parties included....several this year alone...

(Great income and excellent credit PLUS planning in advance)

Many of the gays that I met have careers so they can do whatever they want with the money they earn from said careers...not having kids may play a part in having the income to fuck off when traveling...

I can say that I travel a lot differently now that I am older than when I was younger...

Some key things-

1.  I travel to more Circuit Parties, more international ones

2.  I haven't had my Marriott hookup in years so I rend to rent private apartments or homes so I can do whatever the fuck I want to do, when I want to do it...

3.  I tend to travel solo or with one person now versus in my 20s and early 30s....

4.  I tend to venture out more versus just the norms...Sydney Mardi Gras was great...going back again next year....Mykonos should have been done years ago...Heaven and Hell in Brazil looks promising...

5.  I'm still budget conscious because my momma didn't raise a fool BUT I will enjoy myself...I spent what I consider a ridiculous about in Mykonos renting an ATV last minute because I couldn't rent a scooter due to the type of license I have...

While some of the crowd may be within that age range, given the cost, I saw a ton of guys older...Most 25-30 year olds, even with great careers can't afford that...My hot chiropractor is maybe late 20s and is still in the saving up phase for international traveling...

Age should not deter you from doing or going anywhere...

I will say that the vast majority of the guys are very fit, muscular, attractive...Not all ...but if you are the typical older gent who has let himself go, you should probably go to Mykonos another time to avoid getting your feelings hurt since most of the guys there aren't looking to be hired OR they are already with their sponsors...

It's refreshing that you know younger guys who dismiss gay steroidal overbuilt guys...then they should party where they fit in...there are tons of options...

I had an amazing time and can't wait to go back....

Oh, I can proudly go back even farther than that! When one maintains one’s self, ages well, prepared well, and lives well, there really should be no reason to try to shave years off one’s real age.

Hallelujah! True and I so agree @SolaceSoul There seems to be a surprising number of young men who value and want a mature companion.

Not only that, but if you keep yourself up and maintain (or even improve upon) your looks, physique, and health  (both physical and fiscal) as you mature, then there should be few valid reasons why one should not be open to being romantically or sexually involved with partners closer to one’s own age who have done the same thing.

I’m not suggesting that it must happen. I am just saying the it is important to be open to it, if partners like that are actually available to you.

I realize this an old thread, but here goes -

I first set foot on Mykonos in the late 80s and I was my late twenties.  A trusted friend said it was a must and I was in Europe for an extended summer Holiday anyway....so why not ?  There were no big resorts, no massive luxury villas, no cruise ships & no circuit parties. My friend said just book the flight to Mykonos from Athens and upon arrival I could find a room from locals meeting arrivals at the airport.
He was right - the locals we waiting & for US $35 per night I had a new private villa (1 bedroom/bathroom w small kitchen/living area) w terrace overlooking the harbor...it was breathtaking.  The nights out all started in the bars for a cocktail (the place w sunsets ??) , then on to dinner around 10p and always ending up at Pierros.  Pierros was the wild disco that was packed shoulder to shoulder w hot & sweaty men from around the world...a few straight people scattered about and a front patio to see and be seen. The boys spilled into the streets. I was in heaven.  I went back several times in early 90s and always felt it was such a special place with its own brand of magic. It never felt crowded and everyone was friendly.  As a solo traveler, easy to met others for beach, dinner & drinks. 100% safe day & night.

Fast forward to 2008 when I met my future husband.  We had barely been together for 4-weeks and he invited me on an Atlantis Med Cruise from Barcelona to Rome via the Greek Islands, including Mykonos.  I couldn’t wait to see the island again.  The morning the ship came in harbor, there were already 3 other cruise ships there.  Keep in mind each of these ships has between 2000 - 3000 passengers. The village was literally overrun w people and streets were impassable in places.  Pierros was long gone and it all looked like an overcrowded theme park. And, the prices were insane - compared to anywhere in Spain or Italy at the time. Mykonos had been discovered, connected to the internet and become a cruise ship mecca.  The magic was gone - I couldn’t wait to get off the island.  Its a given a holiday spent on Mykonos would be very different from visiting as a cruise ship passenger....but, those passengers are still going to be getting off everyday and invading the island.

Now in 2021, friends want to rent a villa for 2 weeks early September for a destination 60th bday party.  Our couples friend group is a live & let live sort where almost anything goes.  The question for me now is if Mykonos is even worth the time and expense anymore ?   Or, are there more accessible European gay island retreats ?  Men for hire aren’t a requirement, but certainly a plus.  I’m thinking this might be the year to go back to Mykonos as the cruises probably won’t be back this summer, but the prices are still way more expensive than almost everywhere else in Europe.  I don’t mind the cost, if in the end, it’s all worth it. And, I’ve generally found the old saying is almost always true....”you get what you pay for”.  Guaranteed good weather is a certainly for summer in Greece & that goes al long way too.

Always hard to return years later to a place that had a special moment in time - change is inevitable, but not always for the best.
