PattayaMale Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Tonight my Thai friend and I will be celebrating at Oud's for awhile and then moving on to Dynamite and then to Xzyte. How about you? By the way, last night I was amazed at all the checkpoints police setup. Some were right at the exits of large discos. Not a bad place I thought Quote
Guest travelerjim Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 It will be a quiet New Years Eve night for me. I am carefully recovering from my recent hip surgery and resting a lot. I am at my home in Chonburi watching some tv and listening to good music via the internet radio stations. My bf and new puppy dog are at his home in Singburi with family. He wanted me to go with them, but I said it was best for me to rest at home. There is a very nice hotel in Singburi, The Singburi Palace Hotel - 700 baht nightly - along the banks of the ChaoPhraya River. I like staying there very much, but this time, I said NO, I will rest at home this time and I insisted he go and enjoy the holiday with family & friends in Singburi. I miss him and the beautiful riverfront view from the hotel rooms ... but I am better off resting at home. He calls me several times each day to make sure I am OK. I can't believe how much I have slept throughout the day and night in the past two days he has been gone. Guess my body is healing...hope so! Happy New Year to All....and say Hello to Oud for me at tonight's party. Indeed Oud will be the Superstar tonight at Oud's Cafe in Sunee. Take good care, tj Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I won't be anywhere near Sunee Plaza, that's for sure. When those boys start setting off their firecrackers it's like being in downtown Baghdad during a bombing raid. The tall buildings reverberate the noise and makes it even worse. That's not for me. A close friend lives in a high rise condo. He's having a small party for just a few friends. We're going to have our party and have a panoramic view of all the fireworks displays. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 There were lots of fireworks last night, the 30th, all around Sunee. Can only imagine what tonight will be like. Although the professional firework shows are pretty,I never understood the appeal of street fireworks and always feel as if my eye is going to be taken out. Quote
Guest Steve1903 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Gonna be a real killjoy on this. Never got the whole "New Year" thing myself. Couldn't care less, its no more than the day after the last one, just like all the others. Only difference I see is that there are more drunken bums than normal for me to sneer at. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 A few gay friends planned to charter a converted rice barge for a Thai buffet dinner whilst sailing along the Chao Phaya River, then mooring close to the Shangri-La hotel to watch the fireworks. The idea grew and we ended up with about 36 people (and a bigger barge!). It was a lovely way to spend the evening. Quote

I have done this dinner cruise a few years ago (not on NY Eve) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I celebrated New Years in Ubon. The day of 31st started pretty early. My bf and I traveled 70 kilometers north of Ubon into Issan area, where his family lives. Along the drive I noted at least several police check points where they had signs set up and cones out, with red lights flashing. We weren't stopped at any of these either on our morning drive to the area, nor when we returned about 9 pm the evening of the 31st. Upon arrival the party (spelled drinking) was already under way. We spent the day drinking with many of the bf's family and friends. I was the only Farang there, and one young lady spoke English, and the next door neighbor who was from Singapore also spoke English. I had a good time. We ate, drank, and my bf had a great time meeting old friends and family. This is where the party started: And then it moved inside: And continued outside: The entire "village" was doing the same thing. Every house was either empty or had a party going. Also on the drive both directions there were many pickups and small trucks full of family groups traveling to party somewhere. It is definitely a big holiday for Thais!! It is now 1 pm on News Year Day, and I have no idea what kind of partying might yet go on today and into the weekend, but the bf just brought me a tall rum and coke, so I guess things are starting again!! PattayaMale Posted January 1, 2009 Author Posted January 1, 2009 Moving from one area to another last night it seemed that Pattaya was one big party. Glad to hear that in the villages the party was going on too. My Thai friend received a call from his cousin at 4am saying the family could not find a room. My Thai friend checked 2 of the hotels by our house and both were full except 1 room. They charged 1500 for a normally 400 baht room. Oh well, it was just one night. And they were happy to find a room since they had a 4 year. By the way, the reason I understand for making a lot of noise when midnight starts off the New Year is to chase away the bad luck so the New Year will be happy and prosperous. Hope it works!!! Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Popped into a couple Sunee gogos in the early evening. The boys from Euroboys were at CockTails for a special party, I think this is a one time deal. Rang in midnight at EZY Bar, a ladyboy bar on Soi BJ off Walking Street and stayed late. This joint is open till about 6AM everyday so a good late night spot if you like ladyboys. Quote
