Guest catawampuscat
Just back from a couple of days up in Udon Thani, in Esan.. It is a fair sized city in a populous province and even has a bar called Boy-Boy bar close to the center of town..It was raining very hard the one free nite I was there and the kareoke pictograph on the door lead me to believe it was a kareoke but maybe someone else knows first hand.. The big hotels were full, which was a surprise in low season and we finally ended up in Top Mansion.I was a bit apprehensive when the tuk tuk driver said it was 300B. an nite but it was 3 AM and we needed a room..It was actually new, clean , airconditioned, full bathroom with hot water shower and cable TV...no lift but internet room with coin operated machine that allows 20 minutes for a 10 baht coin, and high speed to boot.. all in all, you can't beat it for price and location and I would stay again for a nite or two.. We bought a washing machine in town and the delivery truck took us to the village..since I didn't know the way, I sat in the open back of the truck and it was kind of fun for a few minutes until we hit the mud/dirt roads and fortunately it was a short ride and the rain started an hour later.. The village was small and the house humble with a concrete floor but my boy had a high end stereo and two colour TV's.. We had a big lunch from a hot pot on mats on the floor and a few neighbors joined in..One lady in her 40's kept hitting on me and wanted to have sex..The other ladies thought this was a riot and in my pitiful Thai, I said I had no power , so she would save face.. She kept trying but it was all in good fun and I have a feeling if I was so inclined she was more than ready..Her husband had died and I don't think she got out much.. Lots of boys everywhere but not as cruisy as BKK or Pattaya..Lots of ladyboys and obvious gay boys in the big shopping center.. Two nites more than enough for this farang... Guest catawampuscat
By the way , we took the VIP bus to Udon Thani , which costs 400 something B. a ticket and has 3 big seats across..The seats are somewhat like business class and recline and are fairly comfortable...The ride is endless and if you can sleep like all the Thais do, it passes quickly.. For a big farang, the seat is ok but not luxorious and the ride is bumpy at times... We arrived in Udon Thani at 3 or 3:30 AM, which seemed odd to me and not what I would have planned but my bf made the arrangements.. I didn't see any regular taxis in Udon and there were lots of tuk tuks and a one seat transport utilizing a bicycle driver.. They see a farang and I think the price doubles but one has no choice when it is late and you are new in town.. I will add in that we took the VIP bus back during the day and it was okay but again endless..The train was sold out in first and second class except for the upper berths which are very tight for big bodied people.. The AirAsia flight was at a very early hour and the cheap seats were sold out so it was the VIP bus again.. It is an interesting experience to go to the boy's village, meet the family and see what and where they come from.. One bit of advise is to keep the trip short and stay in a hotel.. My last bf who lived in Nong Khai, a bit further than Udon, liked me to visit for days at a time and I ended up buying beer and lots of stuff for lots of neighbors and it really got old after a day or two.. We all learn from experience and it is good to get out of the big commercial cities and see the real Thailand once in while..
Guest hajuthai
Thanks cat for telling about your experience with Udon Thani. It is a nice town and live is going easier there. My boy come from a small village south of Udon, Nong Phai, and I like ti visit the village and his family. Okay they expect that I buy beer and thaiwhiskye, but no problem. We have a good time together. i have stayed at Charoensi Grand, a nice hotel in center, but last time I wanted some nearer to his village, so I found a little resort in Nong Sun called Bamboo garden. A nice place with a beautiful garden, swimmin gpool and a nice ron with a/c, tv, fridge for 450 bath a nigth. I take the luxery to fly and do it with NOK air, 1 hour fligth, okay 3000 bath t/r, but easy.
