I know that there have been many warnings about this. I know many people think it only happens to others.

Today I received a call telling me that a good friend had been arrested through a sting operation. It is not for me to give the details but I want to give a warning to others.

Make sure that you absolutely DO NOT take anyone home without making sure that they are 18 or over. Under no circumstance take their word for it. Do not fall for any claim of forgetting, losing, etc. If the picture does not look like the person on the id, once again do not take their word that it is them.

Remember that their are several groups (NGO's) that are pushing very hard for a "crackdown", and fair or not they are targeting gays. Much better press.

Entrapment does not seem to be any kind of defense. So as GayButton and others have said many times. Be more than careful. Be certain. The police may take payoffs to allow underage dancers in some bars. But the issue is separate. Don't think because it is openly happening in a bar, the bar (or police they pay) will protect you. YOU are the only one who can protect you.

Please do not post rumors! It will not help anyone and may cause problems as all the message boards are being monitored. Don't think that because you post anonymously you are hidden. Just be careful..

I think that's the most important point in your entire post. Whatever happened to your friend, obviously you are quite upset about it.

I don't know what it is. Those who engage in sex with under-age boys have to know by now that the odds of getting caught keep getting greater and greater. Why do it? What is it that compels these people to disregard such serious personal risk for the sake of a satisfying cum?

People say all the time the police ought to clean up the streets of these under-age boys. They ought to shut down the bars hiring under-age boys. Whatever they ought to do, nothing changes the fact that the ultimate responsibility for making certain the boy is at least 18 rests with you. You're the one who's going to be arrested.

I think that's absolutely right. Sting operation or not, if the man (or men) did not make certain about the boy's age, or knowingly took an under-age boy, then in my opinion he (they) has no one to blame except for the person he sees when he looks in a mirror.

As you say, "what compels them"? I believe it is just that, a compulsion. As such there is little or no rationality to it. Clearly any rational person would steer clear. But I think it is a sort of mental illness almost.

There was a popular TV program here in the US a couple of years ago in which a TV crew would wire up a house with all sort of cameras. They would lure an unsuspecting guy to the house with a decoy pretending to be an underage boy or girl. Then once they were inside the TV host would come out and start interrogating the guy about what he was doing there. After he finished with them and told him he could leave the police would swoop in and make an arrest. One man they lured two or three times. He was clearly mentally ill or I think borderline retarded. He was simply unable to stop himself even after he had been caught a couple of times before.

Most of them are sick in a way. The vast majority of child abuser were abused children themselves. There are more detailed descriptions of child molesters out there, but I recommend this one published by the US Department of Justice. While long,

it is easy to read.

Let me give you a scenario to think about.

Suppose some police (it does not matter where) were corrupt. Suppose they decide to use undercover teens to do some stings. Suppose a boy shows you an id card that shows his age as 18. Suppose however that this id turns out later to be a fake one and now an id shows the boy as 15 or 16 or 14 when corrupt police come calling. How many of you make a copy of the id shown to you (possibly fake) so later on you could prove you did due diligence? And in some legal systems would your due diligence even matter?

Far fetched? Do police ever plant drugs? Do they collect "tea money" for traffic violations that have never occurred? Do they shake down bars for protection money? Do they collect money to tell owners of impending raids so under age or drug taking boys can flee before the raids? Uhmmmmmmmmmmm? Do they shakedown bars because the bar is playing music, calling it copyright protection? Do they allow buildings to be built higher than allowed by the ocean?

Is corruption profitable? Is it part of the fiber of a country even in politics or construction projects in some countries? Would military / police be involved in the drug trade?

Do you think you are immune to the corruption?

Maybe the stones we throw at others will be thrown at us one day.

Let me give you a scenario to think about.

There are all kinds of possible scenarios, including the one you portray. If what you say is what actually took place, then that will be the first time I've ever heard of such a thing.

One aspect of the story that remains on my "I Don't Get It" list is that apparently this man suspected this was coming. I can't help but wonder why he didn't bolt while the getting was good. Unless he was sure he could prove he was the victim of a set-up, why did he stick around, just waiting to be arrested?

I would have thought he would have sought out a good Thai attorney long before now, would also have consulted an attorney in the USA, and would have left rather than waiting for the axe to fall.

Fake ID's are nothing new and that possibility ought to be taken into consideration any time a boy might appear to be under-age. Hindsight is 20-20, of course, but a 14 year old trying to pass himself off as an 18 year old would certainly turn on red lights for me.

I am not sure I understand, when asked, if I am saying this is what happened. As I said I will not comment on my friend's troubles, but not all is as it may seem.

I agree. I see no particular reason to for you to reveal anything the media has not already revealed unless your friend requests that you reveal anything more. I think most of us understand that all you were trying to do was warn us about this sort of possibility. There is no need for you to respond to requests for information or comments unless you wish to.

I must take issue with fedssocr about this. I guess it is arguable that their behaviour isn't rational insofar as it makes no sense in terms of possible consequences and biological outcome. But I would point out that pretty much what he describes above would have been words applied to all gays just a few years back and still are in many many societies. Presumably fedsoccr is content in his 'gayness' and accepts that he isn't mentally ill or irrational. He might agree that he is even compelled to act he way he does because he is what he is.

We have all been dealt a hand by God or Biology and have to get on with it. What seems normal to one is not to another. I just don't think that being different is being mentally ill. Unfortunate and requiring of great self control perhaps.

I know I've asked this before but still waiting for an answer. If this is a police sting whereby they use an underage boy (or boys) to trap farang who are on the lookout for such types then how far do they allow the meeting of farang/boy to go before stepping in? Presumably they cannot arrest and charge someone of having unlawful sex before it actually takes place and I cant really see how its possible to allow the sex to happen before they make an arrest so how does that work then?

I don't know for sure, but my guess is that the police are not directly involved at all until after sex takes place.

This is only a guess on my part, so don't take this as fact, but I believe a boy like this allows himself to be picked up by the farang, has sex with him somewhere, and then either of two scenarios take place: Either the boy demands more money from the farang and threatens to go to the police if he doesn't get it, or he takes the "tip" money the farang gives him, thanks the farang, and then goes to the police because he gets more money as a paid informant.

I could be way off base here, but to me it makes perfect sense from the boy's point of view. Here he is, a street urchin, likely ridden with ya-ba, and street-smart enough to seduce an unsuspecting farang who is expecting to have sex with the boy, pay him the usual "tip" amount, and that's the end of it. It seems that the average farang prefers to pay as little as possible and the boy knows that if he turns in the farang, he gets paid informant money. Nothing happens to him at all. He's right back out in the streets seeking his next victim. Meanwhile, he just destroyed the farang's life and couldn't care less.

Right or wrong, that's the scenario I envision. For whatever reason, it is extremely rare for a farang to end up arrested when he takes a boy from a bar, even when the boy is under-age. But it's a different story when picking up an under-age street urchin. Just why it works this way goes beyond me, but that seems to be the case.

To my mind, given the possible consequences, if you're out there knowingly taking under-age boys for sex, then the cheese slipped off your cracker a long time ago . . .

GB...

"then the cheese slipped off your cracker a long time ago"....

That is one I have not heard of before...

my Jesuit philosophy professor would have liked it :-)

Another friend of mine used to say...

"whatever melts your butter!"...

However in this case of underage...

I'm afraid the butter would be burnt!

Happy New Year...
