Background

Woke up one morning, three weeks ago and decided that I had had enough reading other people’s sexcapades in Brazil. 

Visa Application
My British passport expired late last year, I have not had time to renew so I had to apply for a visa with my Ghanaian Passport and Green Card. Since I was not sure if the visa waiver policy was going to apply to permanent residents as well I decided to go ahead and apply for a visa anyway. Gathered the required documents (completed online portion with an uploaded passport picture~>print receipt sign and paste another passport photo on there,  passport, green card, pay stubs, utility bill and an $80 USPS cashiers check and a ticket I got with COPA for about $500 for the 17th of April). 4 hour drive to Chicago, submitted my application on the Friday, 5th of April. I was given a receipt to pick up my visa on the 12th of April, was in and of the Embassy within 15 minutes. I had heard and read terrible stories about the in-person visa application process so I knew I was cutting it real close. Tuesday 9th April I checked online and my visa was ready to pick up. I bought my ticket to fly out of Chicago to São Paulo, so I waited to pick up my passport and visa on the 16th and then just fly out in the morning of the 17th. 

Pre-Trip Planning
Extensive reading of this blog consulted a member on here who gave me a lot of pointers. I chose an Airbnb in Jardim Paulista. I sent the host a message asking if visitors were allowed. She said yes but it is better, safer, easier and more convenient if I knew the names and RG or CPF of the friends I am expecting so she could pre-authorise them to come up to the apartment. I went ahead and gave her the names and CPF of two guys that I had planned to meet. As part of my planning I pinned to various locations (including Lagoa)  in São Paulo on Grindr to see the kind of guys around. Spoke to two that I found really attractive (non- Garoto) and meeting up with with them when I get there. I tried to set up a massage and waxing appointment package at inhouseagencia via WhatsApp but whoever is managing the account was not keen on setting up an appointment a week before. He said to get in touch at most a day before. Goldtherapy spa did not even bother to respond. Estudio5massagem set up a waxing appointment for Thursday at 11:00am. Thursday 4/18

Spent the morning walking on Avenida paulista. Saturday night, after lagoa, I ended up going to get dinner and drinks with a friend. After that I decided I’d just stay at home and not go to The week, I had already had too much to drink and I was tired. So pseudo-boyfriend and I just stayed at home, drank some more and basically fucked all night so I guess I was not that tired after all. We did not sleep till about 6am.

Sunday

Did not wake up till around 1pm I think. Went to carrefour to get coffee. I am a raging bitch without any coffee. Pseudo-boyfriend (lets call him joe)  did not wake up till around 3pm. Hi, I would not call that area "the most convenient for sauna access" but I would call it a "general touristy walking around" area. 

Avenida Paulista is fairly close to Fragata but not to Lagoa. 

However, Avenida Paulista is a great street for sight seeing. 

If you like museums, you have MASP which has a frequent turn-over of exhibits.  

At the far end of Avenida Paulista is Trianon park.   Depending on the weather, it is possible to find hustlers in that park.  They are obvious when you enter the park.

Wherever you stay, if you blend sights and sauna venues you will likely need to travel locally most days via Metro or a ride app. The key for me is proximity to a Metro station. I have stayed on three different Metro lines and total travel (no charge, in my case) has been about the same each visit. 

I have liked that Lagoa, usually my last activity of the day, is walkable to Santa Cruz Metro where there are also many excellent dinner options if I have not yet eaten. I have also stayed within two blocks of there, meaning travel to more tourist areas in the daytime ... six of one, half a dozen of another in terms of the time of day travel will occur.

I usually try to choose a top floor (penthouse/cobertura) apartment without adjoining neighbours, so I endure less annoying noise. Reasonably priced smaller modest ones are not plentiful, so location near a Metro station within ten stops of my destinations is the main determinant. 

I would likely choose my preferred type of accommodation even if Über would need to be my main source of transport, as long as there were other amenities within a short walk. 

I am usually back home before the Metro closes. I have not hosted guests.

I do not know if Lagoa's change in location will be near a station. However, Über is inexpensive.

There is no change in location for Lagoa finalized yet.  Nothing has worked out so far for locking in a new location.  

It seems greed and stinginess are at play in a possible new location for Lagoa. 

As of now - the lease is gone - However, Lagoa is staying put - month-to-month - 

A few places that looked promising have not been locked in. 

Therefore, anyone going to Lagoa should check the address unless ads and their website notify of any move. 

Who knows, the month-to-month might turn into years.
