Helsinki and Tallinn

Hi there....

I’m  planning to travel to Helsinki and Tallinn later this year. Does anyone have any reports on places to visit, guys to contact, escorts, saunas, bars, quality of talent etc?

I visited both cities last year. Helsinki was frankly dull while Tallinn has a very attractive, but very small, city centre.

Saunas are plentiful and popular but not used for sexual encounters; indeed on weekends in Helsinki, you have to reserve ahead to visit a popular sauna.

I’d characterise both cities as having a paucity of available talent, tho there was some eye-candy.

I had earlier met online (on Hunq/Planet Romeo) a couple of fit young men in Tallinn who like older men. I also met online a submissive muscled young Finnish guy; he professed his eagerness to meet but in the event he was a no-show. As it happens, I met a good muscle-bottom with a submissive streak in Tallinn; he really enjoyed serving and being topped by an older man - but he’s not an escort.

I agree that Helsinki is a rather sterile city and I found the Finns to rather aloof. I love Tallinn. If you like blond twinks, it’s a paradise.

I went to a "Tom of Finland" circuit party in Madrid two years ago, it was super wild.  Strange that these parties are never held in Finland.  I wonder why

Maybe it’s no longer considered sexy/erotic in Finland.

Last year, I saw his designs/illustrations being used on bed-linen, towels, garden chairs etc in a high-end store on one of the main shopping streets in Helsinki. These same products were displayed in 2 large shop-windows and no passers-by seemed perturbed.

I’ll be returning to Tallinn in late August after 17 years. Also returning to Kiev and plan to sample Minsk, Latvia, Lithuania with about a week in St Petersburg at the end. Any suggestions would be welcome, although I’m leery of “hobbying” in Minsk and St Petersburg.

St P has the best-looking guys online at least in the world. But from comments here and other places, it's very hard to meet them even though there is a bar in central St P for that. It seems to be that the ordinary people live far out in suburbs and aren't very mobile into town. Moscow seems to have more of a scene. I cancelled my trip when I read all this and the visa was a PITA too.

@tassojunior yes, indeed, the Russian visa process is impossible. I scrubbed St Petersburg from the itinerary.

In FI that ToF even got its own postage stamps with those well-known pix on them.

S Peter now has a special completely online visa regime allowing short visits for westerners without all the nasty complex procedures one has to endure for a total Rus visa. It was already possible to visit it visafree whilst on a cruiseship during its stay. Rus visa simply reflect what the Russki themselves have to endure to gain entry in your country, its strictly titfortat, plus extra punishment if your country says nasty words about mother Rossye.

Just a quick note: it’s generally much easier to get to Helsinki (more options for air travel). Traveling to Tallinn is very easy by ferry and the trip takes 2-3 hours if my memory serves me correctly. We were expecting a boring ferry boat but it turned out to be a multi-story cruise ship with multiple bars, a dance floor and (most importantly) tons of duty free shopping. A lot of Finns take the boat cruise just to load up on cheap alcohol and cigarettes apparently, but there’s a wide variety of stuff to purchase. Very easy day trip but we honestly wished we had booked an overnight stay in Tallinn as it was such a charming city. I didn’t get to sample the men so I appreciate some of the other reports!

Tallinn, the historic centre, is beautiful and there are many good looking people. Have not tried the escorts. Same for Kiev. St Petersburg is in my list.

In addition, try Latvia and Lithuania. Rīga is a lovely city with cute boys and a side trip to the Gauja National Park in Sigulda is well worth it.

Kaunas in Lithuania was a delightful surprise with very attractive and friendly men. Vilnius was much more impressive than I expected. I actually prefer it to Prague and Kraków.

If in Helsinki, I always go to Allas Sea Pools and Saunas for the experience. Not gay, but very nice eye candy typically! 

I also go to Yrjönkatu swimming hall which is in quite a stunning building and can be quite cruisey on the all-men's days.
