After meeting with Mr Abhisit yesterday, Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) chairman Pramon Suthivong said that cabinet members ''must not be rookies''. ''We understand the new government is formed by a coalition. But in the current critical economic situation, people who will be handling economic ministries must be professionally accepted, competent and knowledgeable,'' he said. Mr Pramon singled out the Industry and Commerce ministries as particular areas for concern. Local media have speculated that the post of commerce minister would go to Pornthiwa Nakasai of the small coalition partner Phum Jai Thai while the post of industry minister would go to Charnchai Chairungruang of coalition partner Puea Pandin. Ranongrak Suwanchawee, also of Puea Pandin, is tipped as information and communications technology minister. Experience appears lacking in all three nominations, with Mrs Pornthiwa's background including running the Poseidon massage parlour in Bangkok and Lt Ranongrak, who previously served as deputy finance minister, trained as a nurse. Mr Pramon said the commerce and industry ministers should have a knowledge and experience in business, trading and industry. Pornsil Patchrintanakul, the deputy secretary-general of the Chamber, said the proposed cabinet did not meet the private sector's expectations. Quote
