Yeah, so did Whitney.

Pivoting from the truth is a diversion which you can not afford nor recover. Please post your receipts.

New posters cannot relate to how many of us feel about HB's memory of being the pioneer of the first major gay chat room in the world.

I appreciate that people feel passionately, but I have to call nonsense on this. There have been gay chatrooms since the 80s that far, far, FAR exceed the scope of Hooboy's site. Hooboy made a forum for people who hired male escorts. It was interesting and unique, but it wasn't a 'major gay chat room' and certainly wasn't even remotely close to first. See slate article on soc.motss for perhaps the most influential early forum.

Personally, I was on Hooboy's for a while and left. Too much nastiness. (just like the epeening on this thread. give it a rest folks).  Never met the man. Heard he was a hoot, and sorry I didn't get the chance.

I have some sympathy for Daddy having inherited the nastiness those forums always generated. Not enough to go back or support it though. It never struck me as a sustainable business venture, and I think Daddy has ridden that horse way too long already anyway.  I visit his forums but I am not registered and have no desire to participate again.

Regardless of all that has been written prior to my input-- I liked the site pre and post Hooboy's death.   Personally, I chose not to formulate an opinion regarding "Daddy's" shutting down for a month, for he's been away previously, and I, as an almost daily reader, has just coped and spent my viewing time in other areas.

So, as far as I'm concerned-- I will just patiently wait to see what happens.  I've been at both of these sites for a good while.

While it is true there have been gay chat rooms for many years, it was HB who started the first chat room that discussed and gave details (and in many cases, reviews) of how and where to meet hustlers.

That is the pioneer I wrote about.

Go back and read my post and you will find this portion:

"Try to imagine the novelty of HB venturing out in a new internet world and creating a chat site for gays who could converse with one another about almost anything they wanted to discuss.

Of course, most of the discussions involved meeting escorts and/or hustlers, for want of a better word.  Many discussions involved travel locations for gays."

Those early day type chat rooms did not offer the information of specific escorts, names, addresses phone numbers and reviews of specific hustlers, etc like HB's site offered.

You wrote about HB's site, "It was interesting and unique, but it wasn't a 'major gay chat room' and certainly wasn't even remotely close to first."

In your opinion, his site might not meet what you define as "a major gay chat room" but to many others, it did meet those qualifications.   Not everything is measured by the same yard stick (thank goodness).

Like I wrote, let us give credit where credit is due.  HB - RIP

LOL! You mean the evidence from your claim that you are "under investigation for donations made to Daddy?"

What makes a fool look even more of a fool is speaking about something which they know nothing about only to use it to pivot from something which you’re Incapable of defending. I’m waiting. You didn’t know HooBoy anymore than you posted there before 2006. I have your receipts. So do others. Care to change the topic once again?

Stop pivoting RH. You're digging a hole which you’ll never recover from. Please post your receipts.

That is the pioneer I wrote about.

There was the Review section and there was the Message Center (MC or forum). For many years, I had the Review section bookmarked. I checked it everyday as part of my morning routine. I was hiring regularly in those days. I wouldn't call the forum a "chat room." AOL made those famous, and the forum was nothing like that. The forum was extremely chatty, however. It was not moderated well, or at all.

HB was most definitely a pioneer. One of the first (it may be the first) sex worker review sites began in 1999 by David Helms. He created the site because of an unpleasant encounter with a "call girl." It was a review site for heteros and the their female escorts. Many banks were not online in the early 2000's. I don't know the date that HB launched, but I believe it was the first review site for gay men or any men who hired male escorts. And the forum was the first for male customers to openly discuss their encounters with male escorts, among many other subjects.

It took a brave, determined visionary to pull this effort off in the early days of the internet, and HB fully succeeded. He deserves much credit and many of us customers are and will be forever grateful.

Well that’s good news for RH. It’s a shame however, because it was one of your better posts.

What ?

What the fuck, people!

Look, edit yourself however you like; it's all good and that's what the edit button is for.

BUT...

Don't go erasing your post and then leaving a couple of teasers about how great the missing post was and how it's a shame I missed the whole thing.

Maybe someone could PM me a copy??? :flowers:

I agree with you that the link is a dig at HB.

Not only that, there are several totally false allegations in the article.

The author of the article must not have had much to write about the day considering he invented a lot of the false nonsense about HB.

The author should be ashamed of himself.

For those of us who don't know, what are the false allegations? Are you referring to "In recent years, he was a globe-trotter, running an Internet-based travel agency for gay men seeking sexual encounters with underaged boys, with headquarters in Amsterdam."? All of this is completely new news to me. I've always wondered about all of this stuff. Also, would someone be so kind as to provide the link which describes how Daddy inherited the site?

Thank you for sending me a PM on the perils of dealing with a troll. I sincerely appreciate your discretion.

It is so enlightening the way this conversation turned.

IMO, it's a shame. The thread deserved its rightful place in The Hooboy General Pub. The conversation turned only when a notorious troll entered it. Before that, it was a welcome trip down memory lane. If there's one thing I love about the Christmas season, it's the memories and making new ones.

I think it's perfectly natural for members of both sites to be curious about Hooboy, the escort-review-site founder. He was a gay pioneer who worked hard for our benefit and deserved his status. For many years, he saved us a lot of money and made it possible for many of us to avoid escort disasters, sometimes serious disasters. This is a service I've long appreciated, and it's that history I hope to never forget.

Well RH, if you want to play it that way, I told you that you were looking pretty bad the way you were engaging him. No more private messages to you from me!

I have had multiple posters email me asking me not to remove this thread to the Sandbox (even visible to all participating members). I disagree. But, I'll let it stay on the main forum for a bit with the understanding that any attack on another poster will incur a penalty. Play nice.  Stay on topic. As you can see from the above, this turned into a pissing contest. STOP!

RH struggles with himself because the HooBoy history was not about him. And so he struggled to recreate himself in the image of HooBoy there, with Daddy and failed, as he did here, and failed with Oz, because every moment in time was not about him. So it’s not unexpected that someone so detached from history would want to recreate that history in their own image here only to fail again.

Posing that ancient blogspot link to feel informed  (most would know better here ) speaks volumes about the person who who posted it.

What the hell makes you an authority???  You haven't been around long enough to have an opinion of value on this subject.

Please let this thread stay on the subject of Hooboy and about the other site closing for a while.  Thank you.

There is a lot of fond memories and history in this thread concerning Hooboy, a pioneer of our interests.

Please, do not spoil this thread with further unrelated issues.

The owner of the forum will close or move this thread again if it does not stay on subject.

I disagree too. Why does this site need continuous threads, and even multiple threads, about that site? As someone pointed out to me, they don't discuss Boytoy over there.

Thank you for stating that there are "continuous threads, and even multiple threads, about that site?'

I assume you mean the Hooboy site.

If you would be so kind as to let us know where we can find those threads it would be highly appreciated by me and probably by many others who use this site and who are interested in the pioneer known as Hooboy.

I think this thread would have been a sort of tribute to the memory of Hooboy.  Hooboy was a unique person with a unique idea that has served many in his former site and on this site.

If there are other threads about him, I would like to read them.

Oh, and this site is not discussed on that other site because of the personalities there.  They are very controlling and, at times, illogical.

Are you blind? There is this thread and right next to it a thread on his reviews going up. This thread is about the closing of the site, not Hooboy. Why not start a thread memorializing Hooboy? I'd like that.

"Am I blind"

That is a nice response to a reasonable request.

Obviously, I was over optimistic in thinking this thread could get back on track.

You have pushing people to make this thread what you want. Why not just start what you want?

It is not only what I want -

It was the comments from other posters who expressed an interest in the origin of the concept of a site devoted to meeting hustlers and related reviews of experiences after meeting said hustlers.

Others wanted to know a little about Hooboy.

Sprinkled in this thread is information about Hooboy which quantity will have to suffice, under the circumstances.

If this thread had not gone off track and to the dogs, the newer readers would have learned the history of that pioneer also known as Hooboy.

Obviously, now it is not going to happen.
