Traffic in Rio

What is going on with the traffic in Rio? Last year I only had good experiences with the taxis, getting straight to where I wanted in no time, this week has been a disaster, spending hours (in total) stuck in cars.

Also drivers don’t seem to know how to avoid the jams, although I can see on my google maps that there are much better routes than the ones they are taking.

Traffic jams mean more cash

And they realised that only between last year and now?

Also it is the same with Uber’s where the price is set.

One of the worst cities in the world for congestion, but apparently more evenly distributed through the day compared to other cities with greater rush hour peaking delay.

The average delay is 45 minutes per travel capita by single day but today, for example, is apparently 60-75 minutes.

The urban highway system represents 1% of total road network.

This is why I use the Metro underground and light rail transit the majority of the time, occasionally Über with its flat distance formula and minor upticks related to inventory and specific timeframes.
