Italian production based on Elena Ferrante's remarkable quadrilogy. I devoured it (and an earlier novel) recently. The fiction series spans a half century.

The young Italian leads playing latency-age Raffaella "Lila" and Elena "Lenu" are spellbinding. I would love to have been at the casting call.

All the actors of all ages are excellent. The violence early '50s Naples is disturbing yet believable.

Best TV this year.

I saw the first two episodes back to back and thoroughly enjoyed them both.  Riobard is right, this series is worth making an effort to see it.

The additional three novels in the series will be adapted and produced in Italy, though HBO has yet to confirm airing.

FYI, the episodes were shot in the Naples dialect. There were several scenes of kids in school learning to speak standard Italian (if it's not shot in dialect, the scenes make no sense, not that I speak Italian. :P)

The subtitles are easy to read and not distracting.
