Who said that Brazil is not a violent place?

I just got this link from a Brazilian friend who lives in Curitiba.

Curitiba is not far from Sao Paulo.  It is a clean and fairly modern city that looks much like a city in Orange County, California.

The guy discussed in the below link was found near the outskirts of the State Capitol of Curitiba.

He used to visit Sauna 520 in Curitiba as a garoto.

Gads, what could have cause this awful event?  What kind of person could do this?

My friend says that probably no one will be charged and the event will just be one more unsolved casualty of Brazil.

The police have no time to launch investigations over this type crime.

Brazil has more than sixty thousand murders each year.  Murders that involve gay activity are virtually ignored by the police.

Based on the story, it seems like it was a sex crime - If so, it was a gastly one.

That’s very shocking @mvan1 More so because it happened to a young Brazilian who would have known his way around.

And I share the feelings of @sydneyboy1 I have travelled extensively in Latin America and Africa and I always take security measures and stay alert. I’ve learned over the years of many incidents that go unreported by local media yet extreme violence is a routine feature of these incidents.

I contributed to a recent thread “be careful down here” when I recounted a mugging in Rio. One reply gave me a big yawn with the “it can happen anywhere “ line. I wonder if he would argue that the horrific episode in this news report “could happen anywhere”.

I recall your post.  I also recall that you continued to visit Brazil many times after your mugging on Avenida Atlantica.  I commend you for not letting that incident ruin your subsequent trips to Brazil.

Fortunately, nothing else happened to you after that event.

The response of the "yawn" was clearly inappropriate.  The "yawn" ranks as one of the most insensitive posts to this forum in connection with reporting violence.

I agree, that terrible event of the former Curitiba football player/garoto that was murdered and sexually mutilated would not likely "happen anywhere".
