The following appears in PATTAYA ONE:

Frenchman Badly Hurt in Sunee Plaza Attack by Three Thai Men

Just after 2.30 on Friday Morning, Police Lieutenant Colonel Prichar from Pattaya Police Station was called to the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya to investigate a serious assault on a French National. Mr. Damien Latoure aged 35 sustained multiple knife wounds to his head and other injuries consistent with a fist fight.

He was in a serious condition and was unable to tell Police what happened. Witnesses explained that the incident occurred inside Soi Sunee Plaza, which is full of Boy Bars. The man was seen to walk alone and was approached by three Thai Men who set-upon the man and then left the scene.

Police are now determining the motive behind the attack which remains a mystery at this time.

I am not blaming the victim, but I would be very surprised if this guy did not do something to provoke this attack. Although guys "high on drugs" could have had robbery as a motive, I doubt if they would go to the extreme as to inflict multiple knife wounds. My guess is that the guy probably stepped on the wrong toes or pissed off the wrong person. What do you think?

Could be any number of things but we are always warning farang not to short change a boy on his tip. I hope this is not the result of that.

Given the number of attackers and the severity of the attack, I reckon there must be more than meets the eye here, especially since the report says it was done in front of a lot of witnesses. This does not seem to be a casual robbery but a pre-planned assault.

a pre-planned assault.

At 2:30am? I have a feeling it is going to turn out to be something that stemmed from either the farang cheating a boy or insulting the wrong person. Maybe the media will actually publish a follow-up for a change so that we'll know.

According to the report, this was when the police were summoned to the hospital. So the attack must have taken place some time beforehand. I assume that an ambulance had to be called, emergency treatment provided - perhaps even some form of operation requiring general anaesthetic, given the severity of the wounds - and the police summoned before they could question the Frenchman.

If the detail in the report is accurate (no need to comment on the reliability of press reporting :o ), I'd assume the attack took place earlier than 1:30. I am not sure how active Sunee Plaza is at that time and how may witnesses there will have been. Hopefully we will learn how this develops.

That's true. I missed that point. Still, unless the media follows up we can only guess. I would like to know if this man somehow provoked the attack or if he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I'd also like to know just where in Sunee Plaza the attack actually occurred. I expect to be in the Sunee Plaza area this evening. I'll see if I can find out anything more.

I was at Oud's cafe last night and one of the owners told me the man had been into the bar and then he pointed the man out when he came by. His arms and hand certainly are scared from this.

I had not seen the report of this before the owner told me last night.

I was not able to find out anything more. The people I asked either knew nothing more than what's in the media or they didn't even know this had happened (so they say). Although it could very well be, I doubt that this man was attacked, especially to the degree he was attacked, just for the fun of it. I believe there is more to the story.

There is a more complete story, with photos, on the PATTAYA DAILY NEWS site.

Well, I mean this is the reason, why could not be Sunee Plaza the top gay area of Pattaya...I dont know te main reason of attack, but it is not too trustworthy area... Sunee Plaza has typical atmosphere and is less commercial and cheaper than Boyztown, but similar accidents are not to good to visiting this area...

The bf was once mugged in Sunee Area on Soi YaBa and in the early evening. It can be dangerous if not careful.

I am not sure I have the correct time line on this. If he came into the bar on the night of the attack, scarring on arms and hand don't seem to be as serious as the report made out. If it was the day after and he was out of hospital, ditto. But any attack is utterly deplorable, and I'll not comment more till more news is available.

Which soi is Soi YaBa? Is that the soi where Club 69 is located?

The topic has been a popular one on this and other boards. Apart from the fact that clearly nobody knows anything about what happened, the comments have by and large boiled down to the following:-

1. He must have been asking for it.

2. There is more to this than meets the eye.

3. He might have undertipped a boy.

4. Its a dangerous area etc etc.

I dont think anybody has come out and said that the viscious little trio should be caught and locked away, that we hope the guy has a speedy recovery, that if anybody was a witness then they could help the authorities, and that we should all be careful and alert if walking those sois.

The only thing that crossed my mind over and above what has been said already is whether the guy was a resident or tourist.

I disagree with the point I think you're trying to make. I don't see any particular reason why those things even should be said. I believe most people would assume those things without a need to verbalize them. Apparently the man already had a speedy recovery since, according to a post above, he already has been seen in Sunee Plaza again.

People, including me, want to know what happened and why it happened. So many of us go to Sunee Plaza that this story is of interest and, since the media has provided only minimal detail, speculation about what may have happened is perfectly normal and understandable.

But it is not a good idea to jump to any conclusions without the facts.
