Sundays at Lagoa

What is it like in Lagoa on a Sunday? What are the optimum hours?

I'm trying to figure out my inbound flight back to the USA on a Sunday from Sao Paulo. Looking at a couple of AA and LATAM flights that leave at night to late night and wondering what others' strategy is with sauna visits immediately before heading to GRU airport.

I imagine I'll get late checkout from Intercon Sao Paulo and will leave my bags there but I've read somewhere that some of you have left their bags in Lagoa.

Any insight would be appreciate.

The Intercon is one of my favorite hotels. Small, but nice.  For breakfast one day, walk across the street to Mamas Empanadas and try the chocolate. OMG

Hi Numazu.

There is a massage house near Lagoa that works on Sundays. It is called Gold Therapy. Although it is a massage place some boys will do extras. You could give a try.

I generally leave the sauna 4 hours before the flight.

Last time I was in Lagoa on a Sunday (around 4-5pm) there were enough guys there.

I then jet-ubered to Fragata (supposed to be good on a Sunday)

And though the place was packed with customers (and strippers), there seemed to be fewer garotos

I am pretty certain that at Lagoa you'd have to store it at reception due to limited locker size. You might jam-fit a softsided carry-on and personal item in the locker. Personally, I would leave a stowage bag at the hotel or try bagbnb.com ... there is at least one in Vila Mariana. Many bagbnb storages are in hotels anyway. For flights I usually only pack a checked suitcase that contains the most expendable items for a trip anyway.

Going forward, I plan to start using bagbnb in Europe because I travel for at least a month and like to take  more portable excursions here and there a few days at a time beyond the main landing destination.

I was at Lagoa tonight. It was pretty busy. Many of the guys have gone from tattooed to tattooed and bearded. Aalthough I hired a really strikingly hot guy at Club 117 last week, I prefer smooth faces.

Good to know you are recovered and back to action!

i have posted this awhile back, i always fly back to the US from GRU usually on Sunday evenings. I take my bags to Lagoa and the two valet guys put them inside their area, very safe i have done this at least 40 times!  if my flight is at 10:00 pm on a sunday(non work day) i leave at 7:00 pm for GRU, if it is raining or a work day like Monday evening then i leave a 1/2hr to 3/4 hr earlier.  never had a problem usually about 45min ride to GRU depending on how fast a driver you get! Fastest time i ever got there was 35 minutes!  On Sundays i get to Lagoa about 3:30 - 4:00 and surprisingly there are usually about a dozen escorts and same number of clients there and it fills up over the next 2 hours!

Tom is probably right UNLESS you have luggage to check. Then I would add an hour to make sure you can get thru the line for airlines front desk line where you drop off your luggage.

that is true! if you have status with a airline or over 60 you get in the faster lane.

Fragata was the more lively place on Sunday, but Lagoa was still pretty good. Sundays started about the same time as any other day, ~3:30-4, but maybe with more garotos showing up early.

To extract maximum Brazil goodness time, I usually booked the latest red-eye flight home. For an economical airport transfer, I would go to Tiete bus station in the morning, leave my luggage at the deposit on the ground floor (around $5), then buy the airport express bus ticket for that night. From either Lagoa or Fragata, it's a 20-30 minute subway ride to Tiete. A taxi directly from the sauna to the airport would be more convenient, and more costly, but I'm not sure how much faster it would be since the taxi would have to wade through miles of central SP surface traffic.

The subway runs to the airport now, as has been posted on the board previously.

There are routes, "CONNECT", directly to and from Bras within certain time frames, connecting automatically between Sapphire (line 12) and Jade (line 13).

The inauguration of "AIRPORT EXPRESS", between Luz and Guarulhos has been delayed but should be running consistently this month. It will not stop at stations on the way. It will cost 8 reais as opposed to the usual 4. I am not certain if seniors ride for free on this express run. It will run on a limited fixed schedule, only 4 times each way.

At the airport, one must get to a shuttle bus running between the station and terminals.

That's an interesting new development but maybe better for coming from the airport than getting to it while leaving maximum sauna time. Looks like you need to make at least 2 transfers from either Fragata (fradique coutinho station) or lagoa (sta cruz). Has anyone done the route and can say how long it takes to get to the airport?

I have not, but researched it and decided instead to Über recently, 65 minutes to Lagoa neighbourhood from GUL, R$79. This is 40% of what I paid in my home city for a 30 minute Über airport transfer.

Bras to Guarulhos Aeroporto is apparently 35 minutes alone. With 2-3 transfers from the locations you mentioned plus the terminal shuttle circuit I would allow 75 minutes minimum. Squeezing on at some station platforms with baggage can be a struggle, I have read.

By GUL you mean Guarulhos? (Its int'l code is GRU). R79 from airport to Vila Mariana is damn good if it's same price in other direction. I think the airport express bus from Tiete or Paulista is ~50-60.

Thanks for the catch ... yes, you are correct; GRU. And the Über was essentially only two American bits per minute.

To add, I got on at Paulista Metro recently where the Yellow and Green line intersect. Without hauling baggage it took at least 10 minutes to get to the Green track platform ... it seemed endless. Depending on the street entrance location, sometimes these line transfers can be daunting. In contrast, zipping up the Blue line, with luggage, from Santa Cruz to the Rodoviaria at Portuguesa-Tiete was a cinch.

BTW, Not that it would likely be of much use to us, but Line 5 (Lilac) is being extended to Santa Cruz. The station is already cray-cray congested ... swarms of human automotons to mow you down against your direction.

Ah the blue line - Jabaquara to Lagoa and Tucuruvi to the bus station, then airport, then home with a smile. On the yellow line I usually connected at Luz but don't remember how crazy that is. It's great that there's now finally a station close to the heart of Jardims, Faria Lima on the yellow line. It wasn't open yet when I was there last.

I read your Lagoa reviews. I'm glad for differences in opinion!
