And, if you have occasion to have a policeman or policewoman ask you a question, don't be sassy to them - the odds of going on about your way, if you are not polite, are not in your favor.

I once encountered a super handsome (model qiality) policemen in copa.  I just wish I could chat (and do more) with him all night long

Nice story, mvan1.

I remember a guy who was escorting in Drakes in Prague and was supposed to be a cop.

One night, he came to me a little around midnight saying that he had to leave soon since he was working the following day at 7 am. We had business and he left around 1 am. The following day, I went to Wenceslas square where he was supposed to be working as a city cop.

I was pretty excited when I saw  him in his policeman outfit. He was indeed a cop !

Actually, what you wrote is not so far fetched - - for Rio.

When I first began visiting Brazil about fifteen years ago, there used to be an extremely handsome Rio cop that directed traffic on a busy street in Copacabana.  When I first saw him, I looked at him probably too long as he was strikingly handsome.

He noticed my stare and looked over at me with an inquisitive look and then he winked and went on directing traffic.

I saw him there during several trips and he sometimes smiled or waved but never spoke.

About a year later and after several more trips to Rio, I happen to be walking down that same busy street as he was getting off work.  To my surprise, he said hello to me.  He spoke almost no English.  At that time, I knew very little Portuguese.

Even though the cop did not speak English, he knew certain critical words.  He was able to say to me - "Americano?" to which I replied yes (sim).  He could say "you give present to me for sexo" and other comments that let me know it might work out with him.

We stood on the corner trying to communicate (this was before hand held translators like we have now).

With me using a dual dictionary book and he doing the same with my book,  he was able to tell me that he meets lots of Americans and that his friends also meet lots of Americans to make money for sex.

After we agreed he would come to my hotel with me, I first had to walk with him to the place he kept his handbag so that he could change out of his policeman clothes to civilian clothes.  He said he could not enter the hotel wearing his uniform.

At that time, I was staying at a hotel that allowed visitors.  The cop was great.  I saw him several more times and then one day, he disappeared and was no longer directing traffic at that corner.   I sometimes wonder what became of him.

So, you just never know about Brazil.  For sure, that would never happen in the U.S.

Hot story, @mvan1!

I may have already shared my one and only “sex with a Brazilian policeman” story with you or the boards. He used to work at 202 — albeit briefly, and he was hot sex. On a later trip, he reached out to me on WhatsApp and I just happened to be in Rio. He came by my rented apartment for about three days in a row. Hot sex, again — and great Portuguese conversation. The last day, he stole 1300 reais (at that time, about $350 USD) from my wallet when I wasn’t looking. He caught me in a rare moment when I let my street smarts down (the entire incident could’ve been prevented had I taken my usual precautions — put all valuables and money in the safe, etc.). He contacted me the next morning like nothing happened and offered to drive me to the airport. I told him that I know he took 1300 reais from my wallet, so I have no interest in seeing him again. That was the end of all conversation with him and that was maybe 5 years ago.

He’s still around. I follow him on social media. I’m a firm believer in karma. He’s no longer a cop. He was arrested in an unrelated, somewhat high-profile incident a few years later and even though he didn’t go to jail, I surmise that is how he lost his badge. I think he sells pastries now. He still looks good, though.

How sad that the guy was a thief in addition to being a cop and being a good sensual companion.

One must wonder if his theft of $350 from you was worth it to him in the long run.

In the short run, he got quick use of the money.  But, in the long run, he lost your friendship and lost the opportunity to make additional money had he not been a thief.  I suspect he regretted doing that to you.  But, you cannot unring a bell.

Not to blame the victim (me), but I’m usually on my Ps and Qs when it comes to self-protection. I would’ve prevented this crime of opportunity by simply putting my wallet in the safe before he entered the apartment. I charge the $350 (R1300) loss to the game. And yes, over the years, he’s missed out on much, much more from me. I was far more irreplaceable to him than he was to me. In fact, I went out that very afternoon to the sauna and found me another!

While it is good practice putting away our valuable belongs while a gentlemen caller is visiting with us in Brazil, I can understand why you did not feel the need for caution.  After all,  you had prior meetings with this same garoto, without any negative issue.

Nonetheless, it is probably a good idea to be overly cautious even if we know the garoto.

Oscar Wilde's famous quote came to mind when I read of the garoto who could not resist stealing from you even though you had befriended him.

I can resist everything except temptation."  (O.W.)

Clearly this particular news source represents investigative journalism at its finest.   As duly noted by fellow members in a thread documenting the massive wave of hotel closures.

Thank you for this empathetic comment. It is easy to label him as a thief, but it shows no understanding of how poverty shapes a completely different relationship with money, goods, and time. Of course he lost in the long term, but thinking in the long term is a privilege of those of us who moved above survival thinking. He may have needed that money with urgency, we do not know.

I was looking in my blog for the story of my friendship with Pablito, but it looks like I have never shared about it there. For a future post. I met Pablito when I was in my 20s and he was in his teens. He was a street hustler and prostitute. He became a regular and would spend long nights and week ends with me for the food, the weed, and a few bucks. One night, maybe after 6 months of hanging out, I woke up and he was gone with some of my belongings and money. Not much, I was pretty poor back then. About one year after that incident, a mutual friend who met him in the street delivered a message to me. Pablito was asking to meet me to apologize and explain himself. I accepted. We met, I forgave him, and he became my longest lasting lover. We went on meeting and fucking for about 30 years, our last time was about three years ago. He is too old for me now.:geek: The fact is he was married, with three kids, and we were passionate lovers for free. I would make him gifts now and then because he was living in poverty, but as soon as he got married and started to do slightly better, he stopped accepting my gifts.

I wonder what could have happened with your boy if you would have given him a second chance, without trying him with temptations.

I already know what happened to him as I follow him on social media and I know at least one other former garoto who knows him. I don’t think he has ever lived in the kind of extreme poverty that you describe. That being said, I don’t think it’s wise to place any garoto, massagisto, escort, street hustler or any kind of sex worker or pick up in a position where it is too easy to steal or rip you off. I have many other guys that I have had over to my place — at home or during travel — and who knows what any of them would’ve done if a wallet with $350 were left out. Some may not have touched it at all, but some otherwise “nice guys” might have — socioeconomic background or poverty level notwithstanding. The lesson is: don’t put yourself in the position where you have to find out.

BTW, this guy had already voluntarily gotten plenty of reais from me 3 days in a row for the hookups, plus meals and some workout supplements that he wanted (which are pricey in Rio). I don’t think his extra “gift” that he took from my wallet had anything to do with poverty or need. He could’ve just asked me for it, if that were the case.

Long story short: I’m not interested in booking up with him any longer.
