TotallyOz Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 I have read about this study now on a few sites and I think of interest to see the testing results in further trials. https://www.bbc.com/news/health-44738642 Quote
Guest leakyleaks Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 HIV vaccines were tried in the 1980s but didn't work. A vaccine works by making antibodies. The antibodies bind to the surface of the virus inactivating it. This will work if the virus is floating around in the blood but doesn't work if the virus is hiding inside a cell. HIV is believed to be predominantly spread by human cells that are infected and contain the HIV hiding inside the cell. The other problem is that the vaccine causes antibodies to HIV even though you really aren't infected with HIV. This gives a "false positive" on blood tests whereby the test is positive but you really AREN'T infected with HIV. This was a much bigger problem in the 1980s when there was AIDS hysteria and anyone positive for HIV was treated as a pariah. Sincerely, leakyleaks Quote
