What is your favorite Coffee Machine?

Recommended Posts

I have been using Nespresso for years and love it.  I like the choice of capsules and the variety they offer.  I have not used any other pod system.  Are there better choices for making good coffee?

OMG. Gross! Really?

YUP, but for me, the Everything bagel with cream cheese is the star of breakfast... I only drink the 1 cup a day, have never spent $3.00 for a cup of coffee. and dont need another machine collecting dust on my countertop.

With due respect, it's the pods that are gross. Life is short, take a few minutes and brew it. On the occasions that I have coffee at home in the morning, I start with fresh whole beans. There are an infinite variety of flavors, and once you get used to brewing fresh coffee, you will never go back, regardless of the rumors of my now infamous Starbucks latte and lemon loaf. ;)

When I saw the title of this thread I assumed someone would start with fresh, young, hard beans and use grindr to fix them.  Very nice for those with patience.  But when I get up in the morning feeling like a 20 year old, I can never find one then.

I gave up drinking coffee several years ago.

Best regards,

RA1

I'm a total coffee snob. I grind my own beans, per serving. I would never buy beans that are flavored with artificial flavorings. Yuck! My Baratza Burr is a staple appliance on my kitchen counter. I don't drink much coffee, but the coffee I drink and serve in my home has to be superb quality. I won't tolerate anything less. I judge my choices and methods by the number of coffee-snob guests who freely comment on the coffee I serve them. They are not short on opinions. I currently have beans from several countries in Europe, since I was there recently. It's very rare when I don't bring fresh coffee beans home in my luggage.

I do not use a machine, even when I'm entertaining guests. I have a unique drip method that was taught to me many years ago by a favorite professional barista, a dear friend in Rome.

I do know some folks who claim to be coffee snobs who enjoy Nespresso. I could never do pods. I prefer to control the amount of grind that goes into each cup. Some guests like medium-bodied, while others like full-bodied. Some like smaller cups, while others request 16 ounces. And then there are those who insist on a cappuccino after 11 am. Many native Italians consider that taboo. To each his own.

Yes, and best when full-bodied, using plunge method, and topped with leite foam.

I would love having this baby in my kitchen, but I prefer to invest my money in whores.

I love coffee, I do have a regular coffee maker and an espresso machine at home. I also have a grinner but I am too lazy and stop buying beans. Unlike @RockHardNYC, I can enjoy any coffee average quality and up. I do appreciate superior quality coffee, but if I do not have premium product at hand, Starbucks and even Dunkin Donuts are enough to make me happy. I do dislike burnt old coffee, so common in America, I only enjoy it when it is fresh, just done.

I grind beans once a week (2-3 grinder loads done in a matter of minutes) for my one big strong filter-dripped morning cup per day. The key to keep me on point is to not have any packaged ground 'backup' java on the premises.

Nesspresso's good but seems to specialize in smaller brews, basically espresso shots, when I've experienced it.  It seems there's another size but even then I doubt it can make a full-sized cup of coffee.

Tassimo is kind of the happy medium between Nesspresso and Kuerig.  There's a good variety but it's also smarter that Kuerig so when you put an espresso pod in it can up the pressure and vary the temperature, produce a crema.  (Kuerig is basically a small-brew dumb as dirt Mr. Coffee.)

Usually I do one large dark-roasted and one espresso.  Hell of a red eye for at least 2/3rds off what it'd be at Starbucks for a Venti red eye.

I bought a Jura Z8 https://us.jura.com/en/homeproducts/machines/IMPRESSA-Z9-OT-TFT-Piano-Black-UL-13752 back in 2004 and have loved it every since.  Can make one touch European style coffee, latte, cappuccino of your choice.  Very high first cost but with Swiss engineering it should last a long time.

That looks amazing but you are right, very expensive in Thailand.  Over 3k USD.

It is essential however, ( IMHO )...that the coffee beans are ground fresh per serving. I have a small coffee grinder that grinds enough beans for one serving. It seems tedious, but for myself it is a wonderful Zen ritual in the morning, and from start to finish is approx 5 minutes, minus the time to it takes to boil the water.

*Coffee is meant to be consumed hot and black. No sugar, no cream.

God made Starbucks for all that other stuff ( which can be glorious) depending on the occasion.

Perhaps nerdy Mike Jones can teach you how to use a French Press. It might be fun to imagine him naked while doing so. It looks like he may have some interesting tatts on his body.

Personally, I hate the French Press. I don't like dirty coffee, and you get a lot of grind and soot with the French Press. I prefer my coffee clean, down to the last drop. Plus, there's too much shit to clean.

Since folks in my circle know I'm a coffee snob, I've been gifted with one too many Bodums. I can't give them away fast enough. I have a brand new one sitting here waiting to go. If you'd like, Oz, I'm happy to gift you with it and ship it to you.

Lastly, since you just endured weight loss surgery, I would encourage you to eat a more healthy breakfast, my favorite meal of the day. Here is an interesting article from my healthcare archives: "Is Sugar Toxic?"

Several gay men I know who have had success with weight loss told me it was helpful to tape a photo of the male physique they wanted on their fridge. Perhaps something like this could work:

Now that you have a new lease on life, please do whatever you can to keep your weight under control. Excess weight is not good for the human body, especially as we age.

Thank you very much. But, I can't drink coffee with no sugar or sweetener. I don't like the taste. However, if it has some honey in it, I'll be fine. Or, some milk and brown sugar. But, a bit of those things never hurt anyone. However, the ones from Starbucks are so fucking many calories that I am careful what I get there. Esp. in Thailand as they just pour the sugar in.

Thanks but I have a cute Thai guy that I look at each morning nude in my bed. That is all the motivation I need. He did have abs like that one day. But, now, he is just getting older and more sexy (but not the abs). ;)

I love lemon loaf.

 ;)

My mom, God rest her soul, was a good southern woman, and it was milk and brown sugar for her also. So go for the lemon loaf, and skip the latte. ;)
