Tomcal Posted June 6, 2018 Posted June 6, 2018 Florida rob and i know two different Americans who each bought/built houses in Copacabana and both ended up with homes worth much more then they paid for them, one rents his for $1,000./nt with a 7 night minimum stay and it is rented all year so much so that both got apartments to stay at when they are in Rio! they also bought in 2004 when i think the dollar/Reias ratio was about where it is now! Now the difference is that these are higher end properties and they have “live in” house managers which eliminates the theft issues that was experienced by Mvan! so bottom line buying property can work in Brazil depending on you luck and timing! I’m guessing it’s possible to get a lot more for your money in Mexico currently A couple reasons 1) Mexico is a 4-1/2 hour flight from Ca. and Rio is 13-1/2 hr flt! as i get older that 13-1/2 hr flight gets harder to do! 2)Merida, Mex is considerably cheaper then Brazil and has a large expat population of Americans and Canadians 3) it is.a 1/-12 hr flight from Houston/Baylor Medical center in case i would need a Emergency Medical evacuation(unlikely but always a possibility) 4) i like visiting but the US is home and with Mexico i can visit frequently!
