II went to king-of-college at least 4 times, it is nice, the manager explained how it works in English. I always took the boy back to my hotel, though, didn’t use the rooms there. The rules are very clear, there is no funny business or asking tips for extras or anything like that. The manager also can explain who can do what. The boys don’t speak much English at all.

Tokyo-kids looks amazing, i’d Love to be able to go. 

I know nothing about the Kyoto scene, sorry.

But it makes sense that it would be small, since it is a city 7 times smaller than Tokyo, after all.

The best sauna for foreigners is probably "24".  There are several locations, but the best is the Shinjuku location.  Ueno is pretty good too.  I've had lot's of fun at both.  The one in Shinjuku is just soooo conveniently located. in the heart of the gayest area in Tokyo!  haha  

I've never used King of College but I used Tokyo Kids once.  The guy who was working the entrance spoke English and he was available, but I ended up choosing another guy.  I went in prepared and had a few of my wants/likes translated so my expectations for the encounter were relatively clear.  Being able to communicate is nice but I wasn't there for conversation either!  

I recommend KOC or Tokyo Kids if you're short on time or if you are after something specific and you don't want to waste time.  Otherwise, going to 24 (or another sauna) or using an app like Grindr will be more rewarding.  You might have to do some "hunting" but you will have a lot of fun.  24 has a lot of variety (Japanese bears as well as twinks, younger and older guys, along with many foreigners), plus you have the shower and steam rooms, group rooms and private rooms (those cost more though).  The group rooms have open spaces, which can be fun and even lead to orgies, but there are "bunk bed" style play areas in the group rooms that offer a little more privacy - not so much on the top but the bottom bunks are very dark.  

I can't comment on Kyoto.  I only did a day trip there from Osaka to enjoy the sights.

I've never experienced moneyboys at 24.  I've had a few MBs offer their services in other cities around the world, but never in any sauna in Japan. 

Most people who go to 24 use the public area.  It's cheaper (about USD$25) and there are plenty of semi-private spots, usually the bottom bunks because they are almost pitch black, and the shower room has some private stalls, some with glory holes and some completely private.  While I've never paid for the private rooms in any of the 24's around Tokyo (there are 3 - Shinjuku, Ueno and Asakusa IIRC), I have hooked up with a few guys who cruised the public area and brought me back to their private room.  You can get a few people here or there who will paw at you while you're fooling around with someone in the public area, but it's usually not a big problem.  I never felt the need to splurge for a private room.

Yeah, oddly enough, I think a lot of the guys who work at both places (KOC and TK) are more or less straight.  They probably get a lot of Japanese customers who are into body worship or just sucking the escort off.  In their culture, there's a lot of host bars where the customers just like the attention of a cute guy (or beautiful woman for the straight guys) paying attention to them.  In places like KOC or TK, there's more nudity and touching involved.  I tried to find a bottom in advance but it's kind of pointless.  The reason is because there are sooo many guys listed on their websites but that doesn't mean they are working when you want to meet.  I went to TK and asked who was available and could bottom for me.  The host showed me a book with a bunch of inserts for each guy.  He pulled the inserts up out of their sleeve by an inch or two for the guys available at that moment.  IIRC, out of the 75+ pages, there were still 8-10 guys who were available and could bottom.  

I believe 3P means threesome (3 People).

Most Japanese guys are uncut, in my experience.  Big dicks are rare in Japan...  They are out there but average/smaller are more common.  As a top, that never bothered me much.

You have to define what you consider big dicks.  You can  be presently surprised at what you will find these days. There are a few posters that spend time in Brazil and Asia and have no complaints in either.

There is a branch of Danshi Gakuen (Male School) in Kyoto. That is pretty much all I could find during my trip planning.

I used TK about 2 years ago, just before COVID, and found it pretty good. It's definitely a specific routine/program that they take you through, though.

I used King of College a couple of times and was disappointed on the second visit.  

I've visited TK several times and they're very good.  Their lads also provide the best & most consistent 1 hour service anywhere.

The KOC website states in English that the boy won't bottom, but in Japanese it says he will. In years past I think the KOC website used to say that although the guy will bottom he reserves the right to refuse if he thinks the client's cock is too big.

Re Japan and the host boy bars, it might be useful to new members for me to repost information about them. This is one chain that can be found in many of Japan's cities, including Kyoto. There are two in Tokyo. As you can see, there is a lot of detail about the boys, what they will do (the icons tell you if he will top or bottom or both), whether he will accept a drink (alcohol) and if he has been in a gay porno movie. Another part of the site will say precisely when they are available. All can be booked in advance even before your arrival in Japan.

The price list shows that the service is not cheap. On the other hand with the Japanese Yen now low against the US$, a one hour session in your hotel room is around US$100. It's unlikely anyone will be visiting Japan in the near future as it has just opened its borders to group tour visitors. No one knows yet when solo tourists will be permitted entry or under what conditions. Hopefully by some time in the autumn (which is when I want to return!)

As for saunas, as mentioned '24' in Shinjuku ni-chome is a great sauna. Usually there will be quite a wide age range with a largish number of students from nearby universities. The '24' in Ueno is about a 15 minute walk from Ueno station and really quite easy to find. Slightly more working class lads there but still worth a visit. In both you just have to get used to having sex more or less in the open spaces (very dark) unless you pay extra for a private room.

From my own occasional observations, I have not noticed any particular reluctance for Japanese there to bottom. Indeed, one of the most amazing experiences I had in 24 Shinjuku was on a Saturday afternoon with a guy who was married with 2 kids. He was insatiable! He said he went every Saturday afternoon and the whole point was to get f---ed to the point of exhaustion!

Obviously this very much depends on your budget. The first thing to remember is that Tokyo is a huge city, mostly low rise and so location is important. The public transport system is fantastic, extensive and cheap. You can get almost anywhere with the Japan Railways (JR) overground system or the various subway lines. The problem is it all closes down just before midnight and the last thing you want even to consider is a taxi home. Taxis are horribly expensive.

Since you will no doubt want to be near the main gay area, Shinjuku is the obvious location for your hotel. This is the main high rise district but underneath street level there is a rabbit warren of passageways, all with shops, which means if it is raining you can easily walk to get around. Shinjuku station is one of the busiest in the world and takes a little getting used to. But here again the location is great. From Narita airport there is the fast Narita Express train which has just one stop before Shinjuku. As you would arive at Haneda there is no train service but a handy regular limousine bus service that also goes direct to Shinjuku station. If you are adventurous, there is a monorail that takes you to one of the main JR and subway stations. But I think not ideal for a first time visitor.

The next thing you need is a good bilingual map. Actually atlas is more appropriate because you need lots of pages if you want to explore other parts of the city (and they are well worth exploring). I like this one because it is smaller than a paperback whereas most of the others seem to be a bit larger than a paperback.

As for hotels in Shinjuku, there is one right in the middle of gay district, the City Hotel Lonestar, but the rooms are tiny - and you do not know the meaning of tiny until you see them! Basically hotel price is often dependent on room size. Business hotels are near the cheaper end but the rooms are small often without a proper wardrobe or much room for a large suitcase - but the bathrooms will be spick and span! The other point to note is that if you are visiting around the time the sakura is in bloom, rates will be higher. This is generally anywhere from mid-March to early April.

The Shinjuku Prince Hotel is an older property but within walking distance of the gay area. . I have stayed at what is now named the Citadines Central Shinjuku Tokyo Hotel which used to be a Best Western. I liked it, although it is on the edge of the red light district and you may have to put up with the odd tout approaching you to go to a straight club - oddly many are African! Always book a double room if you plan to have company for the night as the single rooms will have just a small single bed. Rooms with breakfast should come in at around US$120. I have also stayed many times at the excellent Century Southern Tower which is only a three minute walk from the station and located on the top floors of a skyscraper building. Bed and breakfast is nearer $160 but well worth it. I have seen recommended elsewhere a hotel just across from Shinjuku Gyoen Park (a bit closer to the gay district) but I cannot recall its name. 

Nearer the time I can give you lots more information about what to see and where to go - gay and otherwise!

These days google maps, rather than printed maps, is a better way to get around. Unless you are familiar with Tokyo -or any other big city  - it can be a total nightmare! 

If I remember correctly, I was using Google maps in Osaka and it was actually showing not just the map, but a photo of the street which constantly changed as I was walking along! 

I'm not sure the City Hotel Lonestar is still open. In any case, as Peter says, the rooms are really small. Also, when  I stayed there, you could not bring guests back.

I have never found any problem with guests at other hotels - perhaps because they tend to be so much bigger and its difficult for staff to spot guests. I also use my trusted atlas mostly because I sometimes want to visit friends and Japanese addresses are notoriously difficult as they are totally different from western addresses. But I'll try google maps when I return next year. I wonder if google provides all the info on the underground many passageways.

Forgot I also stayed once about 5 years ago at the Gracery Hotel in Shinjuku and enjoyed it. The important thing to remember is that there are two sides to Shinjuku station and preferably you want a hotel on the east or south side.
