Guest Astrrro Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I don't go out much nowadays but a friend was interested so we went to a gogo in the Sunee area. It was a pleasant enough bar but on my expat budget only one beer per gogo is generally my limit. We paid our bin but my friend didn't finish his beer yet. All of a sudden a warning light went off and just about everybody scampered out the back, the dancers the service staff, everybody. Then only about 2 seconds later a couple of undercover policemen walked in. So it was very strange to be in an almost empty bar. My friend was interested in what was going on but after about 5 minutes we left. I'm glad we had paid our bins because otherwise there was no one around to pay and would feel uncomfortable walking out without paying and I really didn't want to stick around much longer. Word travels fast because we walked the Sunee loop afterward and I saw an owner I know outside his bar and I mentioned to him about the raid and he already knew something was up. Just another night in Pattaya! Quote
Guest luvthai Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Raids always happen following some pedophile arrests. For the next couple of weeks the heat will be on again. Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Raids always happen following some pedophile arrests. I'm not sure I would equate plain-clothes police officers with the usual type of raid. I have a feeling that it's more likely to be that one or more of the pedophile suspects they have been pursuing is still at large and they're trying to hunt him down. That's what it seems like to me, anyway. Quote
Guest joseph44 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 It must be high season: the rice harvest is done and the 15/16 yo farm- boys and girls are sent to PTT and BKK to earn some extra cash in these difficult times. Of course this attracts also some pd's, so during high season: carry id's/passports with you, don't overstay and stay out of the 'too young monkey' business. More crack downs will follow. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Just want to clarify the plainclothes police comments. These guys looked like cops such as in a TV show like CSI. They wore ID badges around their neck. They weren't trying too hard to disguise themself like Serpico would. They did not seem interested in the farangs at all. I waited about two minutes then deciding to test the waters by going to the toilet. Figured if they were aftrer farangs they would stop me since if I had drugs I could flush it down the toilet. I also walked extra slowly. Then a few minutes later we left. I make sure that I never overstay even for one day. And back in the days when I was offing I was extremely careful to make sure I was always with someone 18 or older. However, there's very few guys I know that actually carry their passport. Also if a boy is obviously legal, say 28 years old from Laos with no ID, that's not a big deal to me. On the other hand, an ID card from someone who looks too young is meaningless to me as it could be faked or borrowed. Quote
