I think they are going to price themselves out of the market. The food at both restaurants is very good, but they are taking advantage of the holidays.

Agree

Have you priced a good NYC restaurant lately. At Pascal's the food is great, the owner is on site and oversees the preparation, and I think the price is reasonable. You have been right on with many of your recommendations, but on Pascals we will have to agree to disagree. I only wish I was in Pattaya to enjoy the dinner.

Do the prices for these dinners also include the wine (usually unlimited)?

Are we to compare Pattaya prices with NYC prices now?

Actually, I compare the quality of the food for the price with the same quality of food in some of NYC's restaurants (I agree other cities may be used to compare). Casa Pascal's is a bargain. You are not buying a hot dog or a Pizza, but a quality gourmet meal.

I do know fine dining as compared to hot dogs and pizza. I have no problem with Pascal's or Poseidon quality of food, but to ask for NYC prices in Pattaya is way out of line. It is quite apparent you don't live in Thailand or understand its economy. Check into the labor cost in these restaurants as compared to NYC and you will see that they are overpriced.

I've done the comparison in my head, talked to a local gourmet restaurant owner (my friend), and respectfully disagree as to being overpriced. Still a bargain. Perhaps your assertions as to cost differ radically from mine. Lay out your estimates and I will have my restaurant friend give you his cost for the same thing and then you can see. Assuming the same quality of food, Pascals is still a bargain.

Now I understand; you are defending your friend, so I won't comment any further.

Personally, I wouldn't call the prices a bargain, but knowing the quality and service at Casa Pascal, I also don't see the prices as outrageous. It's definitely expensive by Pattaya standards and I can't afford the New Year's Eve dinner . . . but if I could, I'd be there.

Knowing what the normal cost for me to dine at Casa Pascal is, in comparison to the prices being charged for his dinner menus at Christmas and especially New Year, makes these menus in my opinion, very expensive.

You will get no argument from me in regard to the quality one normally finds with Pascal's food, however, although I may be wrong, I can't see too many ex-pats rushing to make bookings with him for either Christmas, or New Year with the prices he is advertising for them, especially as there seems to be no wine being offered in the price of either menu.

With respect Khor Tose, I have to agree with lvdkeyes and believe it to be more than a little foolish on your part, to make comparisons between a restaurant here in Pattaya and the prices it charges, with one in NYC. In my opinion, doing this would be equivalent to comparing the charges made for the services of male prostitutes in NYC, to those being made by the boys here in Pattaya.

For the record, from my own personal experience when living in NYC, whilst some of the "dishes" that were available on the menu in my time there looked quite tasty, they never lived up to their promise when I made the decision to sample them. This is in complete contrast to my experience with "dishes" on Thai menus, which in the case of many of them, were far better when I came to sample them and proved to be even more tastier, than they had initially looked.
