LATAM Summer Sales to RIO

Recommended Posts

Not sure how the stars have aligned to BUT LATAM is running a special to Rio from MIA for Under $600...

Dates are good for June into July...

Considering going even though I just got back...

Can't beat that price AND LATAM is a partner with AA so you get points when you travel on the airline...

The food has also gotten A LOT better on their flights to Rio from MIA...

I can't find anything under $1,700. from now thru Aug on AA which is ridiculous , given that June thru August is low season.  Typically i pay around $800. although it has been as low as $450. from SoCal

But June,July, and August are high season in the US. This is what the airlines look at.   I have the same issue going back to Bangkok.  Fares now run $1500-$2000 .  Then September 1st, I can get it under $1000.

I fly to Bangkok out of Miami.   I will admit I’m a little particular about what airline I fly.  I don’t just go for the lowest priced flight I can find.  I look for fares I can upgrade or buy Premium Economy.  Brazil in coach is easy 8 hours.   Bangkok in coach is 24 hours. Not so easy.   Last December I got a $725 fare.   In February I got a $850 fare.    It’s just our summer months that fares go up.

Plane tickets to South America are always higher than to Asia.  I estimate it's about at least 50% higher using the price/distance ratio.  I don't understand why.

The flights are extremely high but I have a feeling they will go back on sale sooner than later...

Also, keep in mind, even though its winter in Rio during out summer...a lot of Brazilians from the states travel to Brazil during that time because of summer breaks, vacations, school being out...

Regardless of where you are flying from the US, you have a layover...Flying from MIA, you have to fly to another US city right?

I don't really care too much about the carrier or my seat, as long as it is an aisle seat, I can make it work...

Maybe when I get a older, Ill care about flying first class but for the price of the ticket for more comfort and somewhat better food, I can purchase additional tickets or just go out to whatever restaurant I want to in said destination....

The flights from ORD, JFK or LAX all have layovers in Asia for the first half of the flight tends to be about 14-15 hours

Sidenote-I flew Qatar to BKK in March, coach which had to be AMAZING...the best coach class flight I have ever flown internationally...based on the way they treat coach, I can imagine what first class much be like

Asia has more low cost airline carriers flying from more US airports, hence more competition, ie lower rates...

To get to SA, you pretty much have JFK,  ATL or MIA...with some carriers even having your layover in MIA, like AA

I’ve done Qatar Phl-Doh-Bkk.  Agreed, great way to go.  Did it in Business.

Mr usual route is Mia Dallas Hkg Bkk on American.    Sometimes thru Tokyo.   Last couple of trips I’ve done Boston Hkg Bkk on Cathay. I try to stay with One World as I have high status with AA and lots of perks.  Being retired I can fly mid week which helps keep fares down.  I also spend time in Hanoi and use Qatar for that from Bkk. Short flight but great service.
