Well, it’s certain most Brazilians have never been described this way.  Fernando is in fact the opposite: all meat and no potatoes.

Sao Paulo has its own version of the Empire State Building called the “Farol” building.  In addition to having an observatory deck on the 26th floor, it also has a museum and art exhibits (thanks to @mvan1 for the recommendation).

Not wanting to go alone, I asked one of the garotos I’m friends with if he was interested in going.

Afterwards we went to the Sao Paulo Museum of Art, which is widely considered the best art museum in South America, with Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet and many other masters represented.

It was a fun afternoon, and my garoto friend didn’t ask for any money other than lunch and the admission tickets.

So for anyone else going to Sao Paulo I definitely recommend checking out these two places...admission to the Farol building was 20 reals and MASP was around 30.

The building mentioned by sanddunes used to be the tallest building in Sao Paulo (and South America overall). 

It is still quite tall despite three newer skyscrapers constructed in Sao Paulo.  The building is located on a hill which gives the building more height, sea level wise.   The building has changed names several times.  

For those interested in visiting the building and thus doing something different during the day, below is a link to the building and its location.  

Also, the area where the building is located is very near Brazil's stock exchange.  This equates to the area being well maintained and safe with lots of excellent or good restaurants in the general neighborhood.

The night started out with a bad programa.  I’ve learned to just cut my losses when this happens and move on to the next guy.

Yeah, you can tell within the first few minutes if it’s going to be good or not.

Different garotos definitely have different business strategies.

You have had a chance to visit and report on both Rio and Sao Paulo. 

Although some posters to this forum visit Sao Paulo, most visit and remain in Rio for their time in Brazil. 

Even my friends who visit Brazil on a regular basis prefer Rio.  

I personally prefer Sao Paulo over Rio although I still visit Rio, but not as much as I visit Sao Paulo. 

I feel safer in Sao Paulo - clearly, there is less crime than there is in Rio.

Considering that you know both cities, do you prefer one over the other?

Overall I like Rio more, but Sao Paulo is growing on me.  I feel safer in Sao Paulo as well, especially in the Paulista Ave. area.  

I’ve yet to hear any gunshots here, whereas I heard gunshots close to my apartment multiple times in Rio. That said, I was in Rio for 2 months and I never got mugged or had anything bad happen.

Lagoa is my favorite sauna, followed by Point and 117. The guys are hot at 117, but I had a lot of problems with poor performance there and very little of that at Point or Lagoa.

It seems Rio has caught you in its snare.  

I travel often to many parts of the world.  I can say, without any doubt, that there is no other place in the world like Brazil where our kind can be ourselves and enjoy life as we never imagined possible.  

Over my many years of making bi-monthly trips to Brazil, I have seen changes for the good and changes for the bad.  The bad had to do with the Brazilian economy which is slowly trying to recover.  

I have seen many saunas come and go.  There was a time when Rio had five very popular saunas that were consistently busy and filled with handsome garotos.  Then there was the notorious and wonderful Corujinha's in Rio that was something out of a fantasy book, but it was real - it is no more.  

Sao Paulo also had five good saunas but two were the busiest (Fragata and Lagoa).  This year I decided to stop visiting Fragata because it is too often disappointing and a waste of time and effort to go there.  

Where am I going with all this history and nostalgia?   Those who enjoy Brazil should continue to do so.  There could be a day when the good places are no more.  As I said, I have seen many saunas in Brazil close.  Rio still has 117 and Sao Paulo has Lagoa.  

Even though 202 in Rio is popular at the present time, for several years, 202 was barely staying in business.   If it were not for Junior's friend, the place would have closed.   

I return to Brazil this weekend for my bi-monthly trip there.   I want to thank you for your frequent updates about some of the places I visit in Sao Paulo and Rio.  It is good to know that nothing negative has happened to them.

In 2007, one of the museum’s Picasso’s was stolen and that one painting alone was estimated to be worth 50 million.

The museum is apparently very under-funded and does not even have an alarm system.

Considering this thread includes the word in its title -  "diaries" - together with postings about other non sexual things to see and do while in Sao Paulo, it is propitious to mention an exhibit I saw last summer at MASP. 

Incredibly there were 75 original artworks of Henri de Toulouse Lautrec plus and 50 original documents on exhibit. 

Talking about value - that many original paintings/artworks and documents of Lautrec would be valued at far in excess of one billion dollars.  I suspect that MASP rectified its deficient alarm and security system since it previously experienced the infamous Picasso theft.

While there are so many things to love about Brazil, here are the most annoying things:

-Slow internet.  There is no way “4g” here is actually 4g!  And wi-fi in hotels and airbnb’s isn’t much better.  It feels almost like dial up speed sometimes.

-Laundry.  Does it seriously cost 60 reals at the laundrymat for just one load of laundry (washer + dryer) Yes, yes it does...some locals have said that is because electricity is expensive here, but I don’t know.  If you did a load of whites, colors, and sheets/towels, that would set you back over $50USD.

-Toilets.  The bowls have so little water in them, and trashcans are full with stinky toilet paper everywhere.  Really glad in the US that gets flushed :-)

-Abbreviations.  In texts it seems like Brazilians abbreviate almost every other word: Voce becomes vc, beijos becomes bj, and on and on.  This messes up google translate - you almost need a translation of the abbreviations just to use google translate kkkk

On Fridays there are always plenty of fresh faces - and fresh meats - to be had at Lagoa.  This is because garotos from other cities sometimes travel to Sao Paulo to work on the weekends.  

Often the visiting garotos ask for slightly more than the locals, knowing the Paulistanos will splurge a little extra to try a brand new delicacy.  From time to time, I have been told, there have even been bidding wars between top clients trying to lock a new boy down for the whole night.
