Guest LastSamurai Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Hello, everyone. This is my first post. I am a retired teacher and, as you might surmise from my screen name, a long time resident of Japan. As winter will soon approach Osaka (KIX) I'm thinking I'd like to be in Pattaya soon, but...... In present circumstances, you may consider this first post to be a bit droll, but I'm an optimist and I believe the BKK airport will re-open eventually, so..... The "3 posts a day" contest has motivated me to join this forum, but I doubt I can match the rest of you in post quantity, not to even mention post quality. I don't think I'm going to win this. I note that the very generous moderator donating this prize will arrange ticketing through a designated travel agency rather than sending the winner cash to do his own arrangements. OK, that's got me thinking. Considering the high air fares out of Japan, I'm wondering if I can get a cheaper fare through a travel agency in Thailand (or elsewhere)? I expect any Thai agency can sell me a ticket for BKK-->KIX-->BKK at a substantial discount below regular full fares. But that's no good to me at this point. What I need is a ticket that reads KIX-->BKK-->KIX. Can anyone offer me suggestions or point me to a helpful source? What might be maximum stay duration? (In Japan, it is impossible to find a discount fare that will allow more than a 30 day stay abroad. I want to stay longer! ) Is there "advance purchase" requirement? Are such tickets refundable? Does anyone have experience with discount airline "reverse tickets"? Thank you. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 What I need is a ticket that reads KIX-->BKK-->KIX. I'm sorry to tell you that Thai travel agents can usually only offer full fare tickets if the originating country is not Thailand. If you plan to visit at least once a year, you should consider getting a one-way ticket from Osaka for your first trip (or, if its cheaper, get the cheapest round trip and ditch the return portion), and then always purchase round trips BKK/KIX/BKK from here. Some travellers will have a problem in that this way they do not have an outward ticket home to show on arrival at BKK - and Thai Immgration does require this. However, you have a retirement visa and so this is not required. That's what I always do. Quote

Gaybutton Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 To clarify: The webmaster, not the moderators, is paying for the contest prize. Actually, that's still not correct. I'm the moderator. Stef is the Webmaster. GayThailand is the owner of the web site and he is the one paying the entire amount of the contest out of his own pocket. I hope everyone realizes he's doing an extremely generous thing. He has nothing to gain by doing this. Quote

Welcome LastSamurai. The forum can always use a new member and a different point of view. Since the ultimate winner of the contest will be by a draw you do have a chance to win as long as you have at least three posts on one day. Quote
