New Sauna in Rio

This is a short low-key residential block (and Othon Hotel) overlooking the extensive green space and bay/marina. One of the apartment buildings is quite upscale. There is not much colorful and varied human sidewalk traffic to "absorb" a parade of young rentboys coming and going, and I expect the majority of people outdoors in the evening are dwellers walking their designer pooches. I would not be surprised if staff from consulates in the area, or the local high-density municipal management, reflect some of the occupancy.

In contrast, the other clubs are more segregated structures.

I doubt there was much acceptance of the whorehouse on the ground level. How are the well-heeled property owners going to take to the realization it is now a M4M brothel? And the folks living on the level above it are going to tolerate the ear-splitting volume of stage shows bleeding into their evening relaxation? I think not. It may be the last straw. I hope Accyr did not draw a short one.

it will be open 6 days a week(sundays closed)

well this is helpful to know - 117 on Sunday night it is then! Now... where which place to sample the other nights????

the person(s) running it are very experienced in operating saunas, much more then I or i venture to guess anyone on this board!

2) just like any city rent cost is a important (and a impediment) to where a sauna is, why there is a decreasing number of gay bars in Manhattan, LA, etc. Copa rents are very high, and When pointe’s lease is up and Lagoa’s in SP in less then 2 years you can say goodbye to them!

This sauna has a 8 year lease!

as far as dangerous if you are worried take a cab door to door like i do when i go to bar fama in SP.  not being close to Copa  or Ipanema is not even a consideration! Remember we Tourists are a small single digit % of any Brazilian sauna’s customers!

as far as supporting 3 saunas, the market has done that for the last 11years with Pointe, 117 and MM! now with MM essentially dead, this sauna will put it back to 3 in Rio!

as far as the new sauna in São Paulo goes, the building has been bought and is going through renovation now and a tentative date for opening is not available yet but a good guess would be after JUNE 15th

Is this new news? Mentioned in another thread? Location?

I am finally going to spend more than just a couple of says in SP late summer.

yes i had mentioned it in another thread.  2 guys from Rio bought a building in São Paulo in a fairly nice neighborhood and are turning it into a gay/rentboy sauna. the building is going through renovation now.

you are going to have to check it out when you go and let us know what you think!  i have found that since there is such a range of preferences among the toyboy group, that what nights and saunas one may prefer it doesn’t apply to someone else! some are tops looking for bttms, many are bttms looking for tops, or for muscle guys or twins or whatever, that just hit the road and check each of them out on different nights!  i went Many nights to all 3 saunas! to find what i was looking for!  Luckily usually all 3 had my “type”! :-)

That's what I wanted to say...since we're inside a newbie's thread, i wanted to highlight the "be careful" thing. The fact that the sauna is close to SDU does not make the road outside it safe (which is what an unexperienced tourist would think)...so for all the new guys who've never been to NMM or in Centro at night...please call a Taxi/Uber while inside the sauna, and then leave. Do not venture outside. Do not even consider taking the metro. Cinelandia is more than 600 mt far.

Actually I'm very happy to see a 3rd new sauna in Rio...I think it will make the guys selection even more specific (if this new one will attract NMM type of GP's).

I regret it is opening on Friday...damn...i'm missing the opening day by 3 days.

I will pay my first visit to SP's Lagoa this month...now i'm already curious about this new sauna in SP, since i'll probably be back there this June/July.

i think it is very safe to take the metro to and from Meo Mundo or Centro as long as a few obvious precautions are taken.

1) don’t look like a tourist! i have a friend who tucks his shirt in his pants and wears his loafers! NO wear jeans and a T-shirt and sneakers! blend in!

2)keep $50.R in your pocket if you get robbed that way you have something to give them! keep the rest of your money/credit card in your sock!

3)Walk with a purpose like you are late to meet the guy of your dreams! don’t pause and look befuddled as to where you are going even if you are! If you think someone is following you stop at one of the juice stands, restaurants or call a taxi!

now saying all of the above i don’t do any of that(i am 6’4” it’s hard for me to blend in anywhere!)!and have never had a issue but i am usually with guys and seldom am alone at night! i never go to the atm at night anywhere! plan in advance what you need and go at noon to the atm!

i think you are making a number of incorrect assumptions here! 1) It has been a straight sauna for over 10 years so i would think the issues re: noise have already been felt with or resolved! and this isn’t Junior and pointe where loud music is the way the owner enjoys it!  Neither you or i can say what the residents think about a whorehouse on the main floor, but the fact they have lived with it for 10+ years, and there are 8 years remaining on the lease i would think it would be a non issue. and don’t forget that 117 walls adjoin a catholic school not exactly a segregated structure you allluded to re: the other saunas!

LOL tomcal ;D... The problem is not t

This one is big... But the increased distance from the Zona sul compared to 117 and the unsafe area will not attract a lot of guys and customers.

would you like to place a friendly bet on that?  the distance from Zona sul is meaningless! MM was further away and they did well for 9 years!  Remember the boys and most of the customers do NOT come from Zona Sul!! that is your built in bias! many of the guys come from across the bay in Niteroi and customers from all areas of Rio!

Maybe my brain is even more addled than usual but I thought the Army was supposed to occupy Rio until then end of the year. to suppress crime. Patrol the streets and all that.

:-) No MsGuy, your Brain is not more Addled! Every group in Rio, police, building inspectors, POLITICIANS, etc are all getting payoffs so when things get worse the Army is called in for a period of time until things simmer down! This is a continual cycle that has been going on here for decades! A good friend of mine is a Federal Attorney in Rio and he said to me “Brazil makes 1930’s Chicago/Capone look like Choir boys!”

I am not gunning for the new Rio club to fail. All of these venues have their positives and negatives. And of course prediction is, by nature, fraught with supposition. If Manhattan's inherits the apparent integrative inroads made by Aeroporto Novo Bar and Whiskeria, good on them. It is not unprecedented, true. I know families with kids in Escola Angelorum and the residential and business community in bohemian Gloria seems to go with the flow concerning 117, Alameda, and sex workers sharing the BBQ spaces at the corner. The area is teeming day and evening with a high-density heterogeneous array of people.

What I mean by segregated is that 117 and 202, and other Gloria sex hotels, all saunas in Brazil I have visited in fact, are stand-alone structures even if their perimeters are rowhouse model. The venues are not essentially lobby lojas in residential complexes.

If I were more psychologically invested in the new club I might lean more towards optimism, but my interest is pretty neutral and I have not been praying to Venus or Cupid for a new New Meio Mundo clone, or even a 117 clone. But if the new club has top-drawer, unsurpassed in quality garotos, fitness 'zine cover grade, even at double the current cost, that is where you will find me.

And I have ideas about purposefully walking around at night in relatively deserted southside Centro, having been to evening performances at Teatro Municipal and SESI, as well as quieter sections of Lapa. But I am not looking for a vigorous debate about ride versus stride. Everyone needs to establish their own comfort level and safety requirements.

Everywhere, since the military is now officially overseeing Rio policing!

There is a pole in the center of floor!  I am so looking forward to the pole dancers.

I wish! I would like to see the working guys optionally rotate thru simple dance/strip sequences where, like in Montreal, they just have be able to walk sexy to music and fly around grasping the pole if they want, not necessarily dance in a group with the same copy-cat moves over and over as typically occurs, a prelude to the same-ole same-ole drag quown shows. The briefer solo shows could include the nude genitals fluffing feature that the guys like to show and many customers like to see already. So there is more understated entertainment through the evening if you are waiting for your love match, etc, rather than a short blast of spectacle that sometimes occurs later than you would like to hang around.

Riobard your writing style reminds me a lot of your fellow Canadian “Bobbolino” you both are very knowleable about the Brazilian scene!  Bottom line we need another sauna in Rio as we can see what can happen quickly and to reiterate, within 1-1/2 years Pointe will need to move or close as will Lagoa and i am betting the odds are favoring the owners closing rather then searching for a new venue! It is rather like NYC when the Gaeity lost their lease and there was no place they could go although it wasn’t just the rise in rents in the city but city codes at work to.

Hmmm I wanna hook up with a soldier

I remember seeing them patrolling last year, was only brave enough to ask for a photo and not a phone number!

Do you think they'd meet up with tourists? How would you arrange this?

A new Gay sauna is tentively scheduled to open in Rio in a week, Friday March 2,   it was formally a straight sauna and was sold to Acir the Owner of Meo Mundo.  the location is literally a block from the main terminal at Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) it is 3 blocks from the Candalareia stop on the metro,  Here are some photos taken today! It has 2 bar areas 4 executive suites and 12 regular rooms which means they a total of 16 rooms more then any other sauna!

Will this be the furthest sauna North at this time?

This will be the largest sauna?  Or have the most suites?

It would be the largest in Rio in terms of suites!  i think 117 would be the largest in terms of Sq. Ft.(Lagoa being the largest in Brazil i think)

Place looks nice

How long do cabin sessions last? I ask as they have large baths, are these to have fun in? 45 mins wouldn't be long enough for fun in bath and on bed me thinks?!?!

not often! in my 17 years of going to Rio saunas there has been 4 sets of identical twins working. from about 2006 to 2011 there where 2 set working in Rio one set never worked in the same sauna at the same time! If one was at 117 the other would be at Pointe! the other set would both work at the same sauna on the same nights!

they post 40 minutes but i think they only enforce it on busy nights like “free suite nights”! one of the benefits of being a regular is it isn’t enforced although i never stay longer then a hour and that is unusual.
