Gaybutton Posted November 29, 2008 Author Posted November 29, 2008 I just don't feel right about putting someone's picture out in public without them knowing about the photo being posted. Yes, that's definitely important. As much as I would like to see more participants in that contest, I hope nobody posts any photos without consent. Of course, if we find out that such a thing has happened, we will immediately delete the photo and probably ban the person who posted it if we discover he did it intentionally. Quote
Guest jtrack33 Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 As TOQ says, I think a viewfinder is vital also. Some cameras don't have. I have a Panasonic DMC-LZ2 and really think it's great. Had it for several years. It also has a 6X optical zoom which I find VERY useful. Most cameras have only 3X. They all promote digital zoom, but to me that's next to useless as the same effect can be achieved later on a pc. It's no good digitally zooming something if the pictures going to get grainy. If you zoom optically, you still maintain the same pixel density and can then zoom even more on the pc before printing. I dropped my camera on the extended lens and took it to Panasonic for repair...very good service and less than Bht1,000 to change the electric extension mechanism at their main center near Minburi. Guest jtrack33 Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Thanks GB for your posting picture information. I will open a Bucket profile and give it a try. Just one point though, in your message you said "like this (use brackets where I put in parentheses. I can't demonstrate with the brackets because the brackets won't show in the post): (IMG) link goes here (/IMG)...." Actually there weren't any parentheses in your example...only brackets. I will try and see how it goes..maybe I can do it first time. Thanks again. Quote
Guest jtrack33 Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 Wow, GB, looks like I may have cracked it...thanks! Quote

Guest jtrack33 Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Well thanks GB....I must admit I always thought parentheses were quote marks!!! I must admit, I like brackets better because [A] it's easier to spell and it only requires one finger to type! What are these little jobbies called...{}? Quote

Bob Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Should have mentioned this before, GB, but you might want to consider first reviewing the various internet sites that review cameras. Just google "digital camera reviews" and you'll find at least 2-3 sites that will give you a raft of information. A couple of sites I and friends always look at before buying a camera: DPReview Steve'sDigicams Quote

Guest MonkeySee Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 For those of you that want to enter the "point and shoot" digital camera for very little money, I noticed that tukcom, on South Pattaya Road, had a banner advertising a 12 megapixel camera for 1,990 baht. I do not know the brand or any other information except the ad runs from December 5th to the 10th. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I noticed that tukcom, on South Pattaya Road, had a banner advertising a 12 megapixel camera for 1,990 baht The problem is that no point-and-press camera needs more than about 6 megapixels - as fedssocr mentioned earlier in this thread. All the extra pixels do is eat up your memory much more quickly. They don't affect the printed photos - unless you want really huge ones. Quote

All the extra pixels do is eat up your memory much more quickly. They don't affect the printed photos - unless you want really huge ones. How true. But you know that some people are into size, and the bigger the better. With the mega memory cards at cheap prices, it really is not a problem. I am not sure about this camera, but many cameras allow you to take pictures without the maximum pixel level. Quote
Gaybutton Posted December 9, 2008 Author Posted December 9, 2008 many cameras allow you to take pictures without the maximum pixel level. Ok, my next question is how many megapixels is a good number for point-and-shoot? Quote
Guest joseph44 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Did buy an Olympus FE-20 last Sunday at IT City in Pattaya. Major advance (IMHO): the rechargeable battery + charger. An extra battery is approx. THB 1200 (original) and THB 700 (copy). No more hustle in finding the right batt's. For only THB 3,990 a nice slim and complete camera incl. 2GB memory card + adapter for mini-memory card; screen-protector. Easy to use software in 34 languages. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Ok, my next question is how many megapixels is a good number for point-and-shoot? According to the few magazine articles I have read, about 6 megapixels is the most you are likely to need. But MonkeySee is right. On most cameras there is a control button to enable you to choose how many pixels you want for a particular shot - e.g. if you want to email some photos to friends, you can select a much smaller number. This saves downsizing the photos once they are on your computer. Or if you don't want to bother with changing size all the time, there are a number of websites which enable you to do that easily on your computer. I use http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ and it's so easy. Quote
Guest rainwalker Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 From the New York Times December 10 The latest in technology from the Times's David Pogue. Happy holidays from the camera labs of The New York Times (that is, my attic)! It’s time once again for the wintertime stunt I’ve been conducting since 2001: a research project I like to call, “How much digital camera can $300 buy you?” The main thing we care about is image quality, not bells and whistles. We want your best camera with a street price under $300. And may the best cam win! Pogue's Picks: Digital Camera Comparison Chart Quote
