Popular Post Badboy81 Posted January 2, 2018 Popular Post Posted January 2, 2018 I thought I would be smart and leave the city on an 6:45 AM flight back to the states.... Totally forgot that the metro, buses, uber, AND most of the taxis were not able to get in or out of Copacabana.... Had a great time celebrating New Years on Copa....had a few drinks...watched the amazing fireworks and then decided to head to the airport at 4 am....You know, I would have had PLENTY of time to get to the airport Not the case....Cariocas STAY in Copa after the fireworks display and again...Uber wasnt working...Buses didnt start back running until 5 am and I dont even know how to take the metro to the airport area... After attempting to catch a taxi on my own for about 40 minutes..I got BLESSED A Carioca who spoke really good English was already in a taxi that was able to flag down told the driver to take me to airport...she was getting out in Ipanema... I got to the airport with tons of time to spare but the whole ride there, I was praying there were no long lines... I paid more than double what an uber ride is to the airport...$40 US but hey, it was still a bargain Again, I DO NOT recommend anybody trying to fly out of Rio right after NYE celebrations unless you have a driver already... Members Walker Posted January 2, 2018 Members Posted January 2, 2018 Last year I wanted to go to a club after watching the fireworks, I could not find Uber or taxi. I was half drunk, didn't speak Portuguese, and was anxious to go to the next party, I walked back to my hotel front desk, they called around a few taxi/limo companies, and magic happened. So, the hotel service comes in handy in this situation. TotallyOz, Tartegogo and geodesic 3 Quote
Members likeohmygod Posted January 2, 2018 Members Posted January 2, 2018 In these exceptional situations.... ...just call a radio taxi (better call them in advance). 100% success, R$130 flat rate from Copacabana Quote
Members ferrar Posted January 2, 2018 Members Posted January 2, 2018 Glad you were able to enjoy the fireworks @Badboy81 Clearly the best pyrotechnics display here in awhile. So there was a smoky ending that blocked some viewing at the climax. Sometimes you just have to use your imagination. In the end it's the overall Carioca vibe that makes it worth it. You seem to get that. Badboy81 and axiom2001 2 Quote
Members pauleiro Posted January 8, 2018 Members Posted January 8, 2018 When I arrive in Rio, I now use Aerocoop, a cooperative of taxis. They offer flat rate from GIG and you get a note of how much you have to pay ($R 74 in bandeira 1 and 88 $R in bandeira 2). Never was cheated. And they offer a special rate of 50 $R for you way back from Copa. to GIG. They were always on time and I was never cheated by the driver. They are supposed to work 365 days per year 24/24. You can book them in advance . When you arrive in GIG, their booth is the very last on your left, in front of all ATMs. They have an application geodesic 1 Quote

There are only 2 stops in Copacabana. It is good if your hotel is really near the bus stop. Orelse you need to walk in the street with your luggage. A real target. The bus will actually stop off the beach avenue wherever you request it to stop.... Quote
