Guest xiandarkthorne Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I've just been offered a job in the Maldives and I would be grateful for any information on the gay scene there. I realize that it's a Muslim country so I'm not keeping my fingers crossed for a Pattaya or even Kuala Lumpur or Penang-type scenario. Anything you can tell me would be much appreciated as I haven't made up my mind yet - the job offers a good salary but not so good that I couldn't do without it. So, one of the deciding factors for me, would be what to expect as an active, slutty gay man. Quote

I don't know, but you might want to consider making a preliminary trip to check things out for yourself before deciding on whether to take the job. Quote
Guest xiandarkthorne Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Thanks, GB, but after looking up the island which is half an hour away by speedboat from the main one, I decided that no matter how beautiful and peaceful, I don't think I could get all the things I want done in a place that isolated add conservative. At my age and in my present mood, I crave all the sex and excitement I can get! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Good decision. Admittedly it's years since I was there, but in the resorts none of the staff were native islanders - partly because Islam is very strong and the government did not want islanders 'corrupted' by foreign influences, even though tourism is their lifeblood. Given the security at each resort, I doubt if there is any gay scene at all. Quote
Guest xiandarkthorne Posted November 28, 2008 Posted November 28, 2008 Thanks for the additional information, Fountainhall. I think all things considered, my main reason for turning down the position was less to do with sex than the fact that I did a bit of research on the island in question and found that I might not be able to get a personal internet connection there. Since I am going to look for a UK or US-based agent for my books next year, the last thing I want is to be cut off from the rest of the world, never mind how peaceful or beautiful the isle might turn out to be.
