Members asdsrfr Posted March 28, 2017 Members Posted March 28, 2017 I have been to Rio many times and never had a problem whatsoever until tonight. I was at Meio Mundo and it was it's usual Monday night great time. After that a friend who lives here had suggested meeting at Pedro do Sal--it is a Lapa like street party--but only on Mondays and Fridays. It really is a lot of fun and very close to MM. I recognized several of the sauna boys there and one of them approached me first to say hello--and then asked for 10 reals for transport and then for beers which I bought. Soon he was joined by a very buff guy that he said also worked at the sauna. And then they asked for more beer which i bought. I really was trying to get away from these guys as I had no physical interest in either of them and I could see that they were trying to latch on to me for the night. I told them I was going to look for my friend and I left. After I met up with my friend we were walking around and the guys came over and started demanding 50reals apiece claiming i had hired them to accompany me. They got quite aggressive grabbing my arm and blocking my path. My friend who live there started arguing with them in Portuguese and told me to run which I did. I guess the easy thing would have been to pay them off--but it was a very awkward and slightly scary situation. I have been lucky in all my years of coming to Rio to never have a problem--and in the scheme of things this was minor. I guess it really reenforces the many cautions here about sauna guys outside the saunas. The saunas are relatively safe havens and the guys outside of this environment? Well who knows. Quote

Members asdsrfr Posted March 28, 2017 Author Members Posted March 28, 2017 Well this just happened last night and I haven't been back to MM yet. This did not happen at the club and I don't want to escalate it more than it is. If when I get back to MM and those guys are there and they hassle me I will definitely talk to the owner. Quote
Members Bucknaway1614502762 Posted March 28, 2017 Members Posted March 28, 2017 Don't get caught talking to the owner unless you have an Uber waiting for you at the door. Badboy81 1 Quote
Guest bobbalino Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 There are members here who know the owners Mr Acyr and Mr Motta personally. Maybe, maybe ... [hint]. I am not acquainted. But the cautionary tale is very important even if there are no repercussions for the audacious shake-down pricks. Glad you emerged unscathed for the most part. NMM is the only of the 3 places I have occasionally felt I would not want to be alone offsite with a few specific guys who gave off a menacing vibe underneath the fakery. Quote
Tomcal Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 I do know the owner! we were friends long before he bought Meo Mundo and he was living in Miami! This past December he stayed at my house in SoCal. i toldvhim about the incident and he said they would be banned from ever working there but w/o a photo and their real name or someone to identify them in person unlikely to happen! He was genuinally surprised as he hadnt heard of guys being this brazen off site! TownsendPLocke, Badboy81, JAYBLK and 1 other 4 Quote

This sounds made up....But if it did indeed happen, you were an easy mark and should be more careful....Never give guys money outside of saunas to even start the pressure of wanting more money In all my years of traveling to Rio....I have never had any issues like this..not saying it couldn't happen but given the way you told the story, it sounds made up... The amount of money that you were being hassled for was very small... If this did happen, its a good thing that you got out of there without any serious harm... Quote

Yeah I agree--thats why this was so odd. I have recognized guys outside the club before and even occasionally offered a drink which they accepted and that was that. This was totally different. But anyway in an effort to put it all behind me I went to 117 tonight. It was packed with guys and clients but I really didn't see anyone of my liking that appeared to be unoccupied. I decided to go to MM even knowing it would be slow--but you never know. At 8:30 I was the only client and virtually no visible guys working. I enjoyed a drink in complete solitude in the bar area--even the bartender closed up shop and left after he served my drink. It was actually kind of interesting being up in that area completely alone imagining all the stuff that had gone on up in that room through the years. I had pretty much given up on the night when a gorgeous guy emerged--his first night working there--and (so he said)today was his 20th birthday and I was his first client. Well we had a great and romantic time and closed the place down. When we left it was just the staff and the resident cat left. As an aside--when we were up in the cabin during the preliminaries so to speak I noticed his phone on and that he had put on Facebook live--broadcasting the goings on!! I had him turn it off which he did. In the end it was a great night that made up for the bad vibes of last night which I have put behind me. Rio and MM did not disappoint tonight. axiom2001 1 Quote

Do you speak or understand Portuguese? Perhaps the garotos told you that they would spend time with you for pay, and thought you agreed. Much can be lost in translation when there is a language barrier. I'm not certain this happened, but it's a possible explanation for such an odd, harrowing experience. If you were there with a friend that spoke Portuguese, and he was there to interpret, this is unlikely, however. Quote
Guest bobbalino Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Tomcal, thanks for following up with the owners ... of course I meant Barbosa and Motta, as Acyr does not have a split persona! And badboy, you are one curious fella ... I think you liked a recent post, and perhaps like to know what is going on with us personally sometimes. This site can be like a moth-drawing flame, no? 'Nuff said. Quote

This is one possible explanation as I do not speak Portuguese but I have a pretty good ear for any words regarding money or pay as I speak some spanish and I can usually figure out intentions in that regard. Members Gotti Posted March 29, 2017 Members Posted March 29, 2017 Although I usually don't step in controversies I believe I get the characters of a certain (under) class in Brazil in particular Rio and looks to me that the other guy, maybe not a sauna garoto got to the frame of mind "we are here in this happening place without any money to score and there is a fucking faggott walking around, let's making give us what we need, he won't do anything, after all he is just a..." I would agree that, if he "looks the part" (stereotypically gay, frail, looks like he is not a local, or looks like he cannot defend himself), that such a scenario could happen anywhere -- in Brazil, in the USA, in Europe, anywhere. Guest KevinC Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Yeap, know yourself and protect yourself. I am a small, introvert, and geeky looking guy. So I don't usually talk to strangers on street, especially to someone I am not attracted to (OP mentioned he were not interested in those guys, so I don't understand why he pay 10 raid and buy beers for everyone). I carry pepper spray when in central /south america Quote
Members Ojibear Posted March 30, 2017 Members Posted March 30, 2017 I was only ever accosted once by a drag queen in Havana. She grabbed my crotch and I quickly disengaged myself. I later found my wallet on the street. She must have stole it. Luckily I left my cards at the Casa and moved my money to my shirt pocket. No harm, no foul. A word of warning: Don't get totally inebriated in poor country! You have a sign on your back that reads, "Roll Me!" Quote

Members asdsrfr Posted April 1, 2017 Author Members Posted April 1, 2017 I went to MM tonight and ran into the buff guy who was one of the two that were involved in this incident. He was friendly and somewhat apologetic and we agreed it was all a misunderstanding (though it sure didn't seem that way at the time) and we left with abracos and high fives. Apparently after I left the scene that other night my gringo friend had a Brazilian friend with him (whom I had never met before) that witnessed the whole thing and took it upon himself to call the police. According to the sauna guy the police showed up and took all of the cash from the two sauna guys leaving them with nothing. He said that the other sauna guy (who in my opinion was the more aggressive of the two) was so shaken up that he has not returned to MM. So in the end--at least with the guy who was there tonight it was all smoothed over. My original point was that outside the saunas you are kind of on your own and things can go wrong without much backup--especially if your Portuguese is limited. JKane, Adamadam and SolaceSoul 3 Quote
TotallyOz Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 I am a bit of a ditz and when I read this, I missed that you went out of the sauna together. From an old time pimp, I always clarify anything with someone who is an escort. I'd even say, "Hey, I'm going to dinner tonight but I am not looking to pay someone. If you and your friend want a free dinner, you are welcome to come." Then, if I had a good time, I'd probably still give them taxi money to get home. When it starts off in a whorehouse, a sauna, a gogo bar, a massage place then the client must fully expect that money is a motivator. I once had a boy who worked for me at the escort service in NYC and he went behind the agency for a trip to Europe. When he got back, the only treated him to the trip and no money. He and the client got into an argument and the client sent nude photos to the boy's family. The boy came to me and I told him: 1. You are fired for going outside the agency. 2. I'll take care of this client for you. And, I did. Moral, always discuss any and all engagements. This is their business and we are not their friends. We can be friendly and respectful but always discuss what your expectations are or are not. Quote

Upon recognizing me from having been at MM earlier in the evening he approached me on the street and asked me for transport money, then beers, and so on. I honestly did not want his company, bodyguard services or anything else and probably should have been more firm at the beginning in telling him to get lost. SolaceSoul and TotallyOz 2 Quote
Guest bobbalino Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 They really push the envelope, no? At Candido Mendes and Gloria, some of the 117 guys try to hit me up. As you and many of us now know, a simple upfront "sorry, not possible" is acceptable to them. They eventually stop asking but even then do not snub a greeting. This is all part of their job ... you are telling your barber "no thanks" to the hairspray ... or more accurately, your server you don't want fries with that. Quote

I do remember my first trip to Brazil and meeting a few guys at the outdoor cafe and want to take us "for a ride" in their car. I declined but felt a bad vibe. My New York instincts paid off for me. I am glad he at least apologized to you when he saw you again. Quote
