Members unicorn Posted March 16, 2017 Members Posted March 16, 2017 I couldn't find any mahi mahi at Costco today. There seem to be long periods of time when they have it and when they don't. Also none to be found at Safeway. Is there a particular fishing season for this, so it can only be caught at certain times of year? Quote
Members msclelovr Posted March 17, 2017 Members Posted March 17, 2017 I'm not aware of there being a specific season for catching this fish. I know a little about this: there are 2 species of fish known as 'mahi-mahi'. I've eaten this popular fish in South Africa, where it's known as 'dorado', and in Europe where it's also called 'lampluga' in Spain and 'gurnard' in the UK. The most sustainable stock is in the Atlantic. The captain of a Spanish fishing boat told me that stocks in the Mediterranean were very variable, and that most often he caught 'lampluga' after there had been a storm at sea as the fish tended to stay near wrecks etc Quote
