Planning my First Latin American Trip

Have been thinking about visiting Latin America for a long time. I believe from what I have seen on this forum, my destination is likely to be one of the following countries, DR, Brazil, Colombia, and possibly Argentina. All wonderful gay sex tourist destinations.

From my understanding, Brazil is the most expensive among them, and DR is the cheapest. Any suggestions in terms of which country to pick? Any feedback will be great.

Depends on what your primary goal is? Cheapest place to go or easist accessible sex? Or sightseeing and things to do other then sex?  For example Argentina is a large city more European then a lot of cities in Europe! Very goodlooking guys but not a sauna scene like Brazil. Probably need a little more info from you and remember all of us are biased based on our likes/wants/needs so take everything you hear with that in mind,  i am sure you will have a good time with whatever place you pick!

I would say both affordable and with easy access to hot guys and sex. I would of course want to go sightseeing to embrace different cultures. I understand that it's a lot to ask for. Probably a mix of everything. Great sex is important, but I still want time to do other things. From what I have seen, Brazil and Colombia offer the easier access to sex. But DR is the cheapest among them all.

Anthony, tom is 100% correct.  Where you go depends on your budget and what type of guys you want and your own physical condition.  If you are middle age, have kept in reasonable shape and not looking to mess with models almost anyplace will do as a lot of young guys will ask for little or no money just to accompany you and enjoy an all expenses paid vacation.  However, If you've let yourself go a little in the pursuit of the American dream and are not comfortable with the apps you will probably need a more organized procurement system.  Also, if you are interested in a particular body type and skin tone certain places are much better for you than others.  The reason Brazil ranks so highly with so many guys is the large variety of guys available and the easily accessible procurement process.  Brazil has a rainbow buffet of guys to choose from and most of the in an easily accessible system.  The DR and Colombia have nothing close to the variety, quality and ease of accessibility all put together.  Brazil is simply the over all winner in this contest.  What type of experience are you looking for and how comfortable are you meeting guys online vs. in the flesh?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm in my 30s, great shape, swimmer build, I would say as for body type, typically like athletic guy with toned bodies, not overly muscular but not too skinny either. The guy in the photo is a perfect example of what I like. I agree that Brazil indeed offers the widest variety of guys. I am comfortable meeting guys online or in the flesh. Would love to experience the sauna scene since it's nowhere near what I have experienced so far. 

What are your experiences to Brazil like so far?

Thanks, tomcal. I just saw your post about the Mexican real estate market. That price will get you nothing where I am. Do you think it's wise to go to Brazil with someone? I mean certainly we will have our own rooms and etc, but could probably go sightseeing or to the sauna scene together cuz the first time is always nerve wrecking.

Anthony, Tomcal is basically a guru when it comes to getting gorgeous guys internationally.  Whatever he says is basically the law   On a more serious note, if you haven't traveled much outside the states and don't want to spend the $800+ a ticket to Rio usually costs, I think you can do very well in the DR.  That was really my first experience in South America and since then I've never looked back!  If you'e like me an early middle aged professional with a decent body who loves brown boys then you will definitely find a lot of action on the apps in the DR.  I can almost guarantee that you will like it, I sure did and I took that trip with my ex!  Because you are in decent shape and not too much of a daddy yet you will probably be able to get casual guys on the apps and the clubs who will accompany you for as little as a free meal and $20 USD.  However, if you're looking for model quality guys be prepared to pay, not US rates but, definitely not a free dinner and a $20 gift. A lot of these guys want to hang out with an American to practice their English, escape their families for a while and just have great no strings sex.  I'm for the dipping your toe in the DR approach.  Tom on the other hand, may recommend a full body Brazilian Baptism as the only way to go!

I've been fortunate to have traveled to all of the places you've mentioned except for Colombia.  From what others have cited in the preceding posts and from what you wrote about yourself, I'd go for Brazil for my first South American experience.  Go for its culture, its vast beauty, and its innumerable beautiful men throughout.  As far as costs go, Brasil's economy has tanked; thus the prices for hotels, apartments, etc.  have decreased since the Olympics. 

Do lots of reading here as well as on the net; obtain guide books prior to your travel.  Try to read what's here as well as what's available at http://www.daddysreviews.com, and you should be fine with having selected Brazil.  Ask us questions, too, but try to read prior to asking.  Many men have posted solid guidelines.

Lastly, remember one guy's sexual experiences with escorts might be completely different from yours: chemistry.

Ax,  reading anything in Daddy's reviews is IMHO, a complete utter waste of time!  the adjectives--"minimal" "useless" and "really dated" come to mind immediately!  You are the most active person in their Brazil threads and you haven't been to Brazil in a number of years and the last time you were there as I remember you didn't get to the saunas...?  There are a couple of private forums that have only known members on them that offer current update info.. but for 99% of the gay guys going to Brazil this has the most up to date and current info!  

Even information that is 1 year old is outdated as the scene changes regularly! saunas, bars open and close, the best nights to go changes every 6 months or so(as someone who has been there every 3 months for 16 years I know this for a FACT!)  I would be very very skeptical of someone's advise on traveling to "gay" Brazil if they hadn't been there in the preceding 12 months and more likely that past 6 months!   Think of NYC, the bars I went to from 2000 - 2013 are no longer there like Splash Bar New York which was the biggest but like many couldn't keep up with the rising rents and conversion to high end retail and condos! 

 My point being things change constantly so the ask here before you go, if you have questions!

Caveat--  I posted extensively from 2001 to about 2006 on that site and myself along with 4 other Brazilian affectionados all left about the same time...over the years less and less got posted in their Latin America forum! and from what I can tell it's usually newer guys that will ask the same question here and over there, and Axiom will respond that they should check out this site or that one(which they already have)!

DR also happens to be the least safe in my opinion....Corrupt police officers as well as the guys selling themselves who will take advantage if you do not know what is going on around you...

DR, to me is a poor mans Brazil...been there, done it....TOO many options (there are definitely some hot Dominicans available for free and for pay) but tends to be dirtier and more grimy than Rio...In my opinion...

Sex is available and plentiful but you should definitely be careful as there is no sauna scene and you would have to have guys in your hotel...I definitely do not recommend going back to their places

Do you speak Spanish?

Are you physically built?  Strong?  Appearance will make you less a target or an easy mark...

Also do some research on areas to go to if you decide on DR....

If you are questioning even taking a trip as a grown man to Brazil or South America, I strongly suggest you start off someplace that will be easy for you and wont take you too far out of your comfort zone....

Puerto Rico...decent looking guys, American dollars used....a great place for a first timer who is trying to get his feet wet

Columbia, you need to be fairly attractive or have money...Bogota was great and there are tons of very hot Colombians..Grindr did me well there

Costa Rica....very safe, decent looking guys....many speak some English

Brazil....Paradise for me...quality, quantity, location, beaches, food, did I mention the quality and quantity...I have never had any problems except once when I was smoking weed and the police officer took it away and told me it was a no no...Plenty of hotties in the saunas, streets, beaches and apps but if you aren't confident and comfortable, its not a good option...

If you have to take somebody with you to help with being comfortable, that is the reason why you shouldn't go....

Bad, you are right I just came back from another trip to CDMX and have a lot of pleasant memories    However, from my experience, great guys like him are not as plentiful as in the DR, Colombia or Brazil.

My past experience has been going to European countries which are a lot safer and with more English speakers, so going to Latin America is definitely something new for me. 

It's just past trips all involved guys from other countries that I met at the hostels and or bars. With Brazil, I think the scene will be a lot different.

The scene in Buenos Aires is great- IF you speak Spanish! The fellas on Soy Tu Yo have limited English at best. If you are not looking for paid companionship (why are you here if you aren't?) than I have been told that the regular hook-up sites are very active. 

BA is a gorgeous city with a lot to do and lot of good food/drink at very affordable prices.

I think my next trip down south will be to Cartegena As it looks to be working very hard to attract tourists from the U.S.

My humble opinion:. The price difference (in pay for play) among these south American countries (cities) are a very small part of your overall trip cost.

The major part of your cost will be the airfare and hotels.  And if you want a local companion who speaks passable English, it will cost you more than just sex in the sauna.  A dinner for two at a pleasant restaurant will cost you well over USD 100 in any of the cities mentioned in this thread. And I don't think garatos will appreciate a meal at McDonald's.  This is just my personal experience though.

Not sure what type of meal you are having or what you consider pleasant but I have never spent 100 US on any meals in the Caribbean or S America....that would be ridiculous...

I do agree that airfare would probably be the most expensive cost and depending on how horny or whorish...lol...the costs for playing are not very extranominal

Bad, I concur.  I've eaten at a lot of white table cloth establishments throughout Latin America.  Sometimes the boy doesn't even feel comfortable in the establishment and I've never spent more than $70 USD on a dinner for 2.  Now, it certainly is possible t spend more than $100 USD in certain high end establishments in Latin America.  However, you would really have to go into the place with a mission in order to accomplish that.  Perhaps I'm taking the wrong boys out but when I went to Loma Linda in CDMX my date was thoroughly intimidated by the place.  I had to repeatedly tell him not to worry about the prices as we spent more for one meal than he makes in a week working his day job.  I think that was the most expensive and one of the best meals I've had in Latin America.  The service was impeccable!  Think Houston's, but only 2/3 of the American price.

In Rio and SP, a bottle of wine, two main courses, two desserts, white table cloth, candle lights, in a mid/upper scale restaurant,  I don't see how it is possible to go less than USD100.  

But of course both you and your boy have to be able to enjoy it (provided your boy can make interesting conversation in English), otherwise, it would be a waste of time and money.

But my point was not about the dinner, I was just saying companionship escort is much more expensive than "fuck and go" at the sauna/cabinas.

Kevin, now I understand what you are talking about.  However, taking a boy to a white table cloth restaurant and going full date is on a mission with most of the boys I've been with.  Though, many of them do speak some English and I speak tourist Spanish the experience would probably be wasted.  Since I'm in a foreign country with a guy I just met and with whom I may have some translation errors communicating, I never get too carried away.  I have taken boys on expensive dates and not yet broken $100.   However, given that I know that the boy will not really appreciate it I always get a middling local wine for around $10 USD or less.  The wine is the x factor here since you can spend as little as $10 USD on a middling but delicious South American brand or spend a lot more purely for personal enjoyment.  The boys are usually so intimidated by the setting that spending more than $10 USD on a bottle would have been a waste in my opinion. Many white table cloth establishments have relatively expensive bottles to choose from so if that is the standard you are use to, I totally understand.  I may need to up my boy game to your level Keven but, I am very satisfied with the young middle class boys I've been getting, the models can be so much drama

Sometimes the real expenses start after you are back home. It's easy for the guys to keep in touch once you leave. I have some guys that I have met text me several times a day just to chat. Then when a real or imagined economic crisis hits you are the first one that they go to. It's hard to say no sometimes if you like them and believe there story but you have to be prepared to draw limits.
