Retirement is a curious thing.  It affords you the time & opportunity to pay attention to all those silly little things you may not have paid attention to before.  Those inconsequential things that you never knew mattered to you, but DO.

Like Orange Juice.... If you enjoy your morning OJ, and are just too lazy to squeeze them oranges, you most likely buy store bought.  But did you ever compare the taste, or were you like me and only bought the SALE juice ?

Well recently I took the OJ challenge, comparing the 2 leading brands Tropicana and Minute Maid, and for me, one clearly came out the WINNER !  So if you have nothing better to do,  I challenge you to take the OJ test, and compare Trop 50 to Minute Maid 50 (BOTH brands are the lower sugar versions)  and see what your taste buds tell you.... I like the NO PULP versions.

My winner = Minute Maid 50 - smoother, better taste, greater drinking enjoyment. (couldnt wait for my next glass) .

This is my fav....:D

I have tried your fave, but I cant say it surpassed MM.  The MM IMO had a superior "orangy" flavor, while I found the SO just a bit bland.    (but I would use the SO for cooking)

Being a cheapskate I only buy orange juice at the Dollar Store. They don't carry these brands.

I can definitely relate, but one of the greatest pleasures is a good tasting OJ.  (and please, NO memes of OJ Simpson)

Treat yourself !

And While we are on the subject of juice, Ocean Spray new flavor Cran-Pineapple is Delicious.   (and YES, I did get it at Walgreens)

Moving on, Grandma's other must-have is Thomas's CORN bagels.  Delicious toasted with butter and jam, or used for open-faced sandwiches.   (pairs well with ANY choice of juice)

OK, these! I saw last week that Thomas now makes Corn English muffins. I almost bought them to try but already had the cinnamon and raisin and original in my basket and didn't want two more packages of them (they were, yes, on BOGO) So my question is...have you tried the corn English muffins and what is your opinion? .

Sorry, I was off posting a Muscle Gallery.  ;)

YES, yes, i have tried them and love them.  Only problem is they are small, and light, and I usually end up eatting MORE than 1 at a sitting....   So I buy the bagels instead, since they have a bit more bulk....  but if you are making an egg McMuffin sandwich with them....DELISH !

Another of Grandma's NEW favorites, if you are a cookie lover, is Oreo Lemon THINS.  As a kid, Oroes were my favorite, but as an adult the sugar and calorie count made them prohibitive.  But recently I found the Lemon thin version, and because of the size, the sugar and calorie count is doable, and they make for a tasty sweet indulgent treat..   Light, refreshing, and because they are thin, you can have a few, with your ice cold glass of milk and not feel guilty. .   And try feeding them to a "friend" in the bedroom.

YES, thin mints are iconic, but not easily obtainable.  I havent seen a Girl Scout at my door in decades.

My fav OJ right now is some schmancy "cold-pressed" version in the brand of various juices that Starbucks sells.

That brand also has two varieties of green vegetable-juice drinks that are the first very appealing, not to say even minimally palatable, versions of such that I've ever found.

My am routine these days is awake around 4-4:30am (going to bed at 8pm right after putting the aged mama to bed), little bowl of cereal and glass of Ocean Spray cran-pomegranate juice at home, then wake myself up with a 2-mile quick walk to Starbucks, where to have a juice of some kind and a grande dark roast.

Then sit there a couple hours attacking the day's work of hand markup of printouts of yesterday's writing for my bidness.

Productive! Juiced up like that, I can usually get all my needed work done by lunchtime.

Then the whole afternoon to walk around outdoors and THINK.

Something it appears never to occur to my competitors to do. B)

Unless you're in a comfy, safe suburban neighborhood you probably won't either. I don't think you are. They're everywhere right now at grocery stores and at anchor stores main entrances. If they're not at yours this weekend don't fret. They rotate troops in and out of multiple locations for the next few weeks.

I would KILL to get my hands on a case.  I love using them to make mini ice cream sandwiches.

Check your area for booth locations!

i simply entered 10001 for NYC, but you can enter your specific zip and find your closest location.

There will be a booth right near my house but not until 3/5.  It's on my calendar.  And I'm gonna make the cheesecake recipe with the Thin Mints.  This is better than "cock"....

If you're really looking for that quantity suckrates, I'd call the council to contact the actual troop which will be in your area about this. There might be a max-limit you can buy at a time unless you special order?

Grandma's Tip of the Day

For an alternative "binding" for your meatloaf, meatloaf, shrimp and crab cakes etc, use RITZ CRACKERS instead of regular bread crumbs.   It adds an "unexpected" welcome flavor to the dish.  Make sure to crush the crackers while they are still in the paper sleeve.

The RITZ crumbs can also be used as a topping for your baked Mac & Cheese, or any other baked casserole.

And remember, "ANYTHING sits on a Ritz" (except YOU) !   :o
