Visa requirements may change some countries

If you are a citizen of Australia, Japan, Canada, or USA you may not require an entry visa for Brazil at some point. The move to eliminate them was floated by the Tourism minister some time ago to promote tourism (essentially a permanent change to the policy used during the Olympics). With the election of Trump in the USA the idea never moved (the Foreign minister is a supporter of reciprocity). However, President Temer is not adverse to the idea given the potential for tourism $$. So...the Brazilian cabinet are expected to discuss the issue Monday, 13th of February. The president can sign off on this, so could happen reasonably fast. Caveat, this is Brazil.

If you have been thinking of a visit but have not applied for a visa, may be of interest. Visa cost better spent contributing to the Brazilian economy, in whatever manner interests you.
