Colombia - my experiences

INTRODUCTION: Whenever I travel abroad, I like to visit the well known tourist attractions, sites and enjoy nature. However...one needs relaxing too right. That's when I like to try out, how I call it, the ' local cuisine'. I'm a 39 yo guy from Holland, I love to travel and I have a healthy appetite for sex. In this post I'd like to share some of my adventures in Colombia and doing so, share information for others to enjoy. It's all genuine experiences, feel free to comment.

SAFETY: Hearing more and more positive stories on Colombia, recent changes for peace and safety in the country and the stunning beauty of all these Colombian webcam boys, led me to believe that this was the time to check it out myself. I plannend a three week trip to Colombia in which I would visit Bogotá, Medellín and Cathagena. Since I was never in Colombia before, I thought it was a good idea to start of in the popular cities before heading out to the more rural parts of the country. If you read the reports on the internet regarding safety, street crime and violence you get pretty anxious. So was I the forst two days. Afterwards I relaxed more and I can now say: you'll be be all right. It's perfectly safe als long as you go by some basic rules. First: stay in the safe areas (there is enough info on google), don't go to infamous neighborhoods, only take a little cash when you go out and don't wear or carry obvious valuables (e.g. watches, iPhones, jewelry). I always put some emergency money in my shoes for when a pickpocket gets me. When I needed my phone, I used it discrete and I kept it in a hidden pocket. Secondly: don't walk the streets after dark, take a taxi using the different apps. My favorite was Uber: safe, documented and no cash involved. Loved it. Last: be aware of your surroundings, don't leave your drink unattended. Basically these rules should be applied by every visitor in every city in the world I think. Once these rules were in my system, I started to enjoy the place! Besides that I rented my private apartment which gave me a very secure feeling and, subsequently, a place to play when needed :-)

CABINAS. These are genuinely my personal experiences. After some research on the internet I learned about this phenomenon called 'Cabinas'. A Cabina refers to a internet café kind of setting, with private cubicles. In these cubicles you have a computer to surf the web in private *wink, wink*. The reports I read were promising. Not sure where you are looking for your flights? Plenty of 1 stop options with 2 hour change overs in the $600 range.  Fares are similar and flight times much less?  Departures from 2 London airports.

Sorry, I should have added, I'd want to fly from a northwest airport (probably Manchester). Getting to Heathrow can be tricky depending on your location in UK.

CASUAL STREET TRADE. So if one is done wondering around in a new town and visiting the main sites, what's next? Still pretty simple if you really want to go. Fly LH RT to Bogota ( excellent connections) and there are many flights all day Bogota to Medellin for $40-60. If you are going there should visit both . Lots more choices in Bogota (much bigger)

Thanks, I've had a quick looks and looks more promising.

Why do you suggest Bogota? Most of the threads and chat same to rave about Medellin and don't mention Bogota.

Medellin is the city of 'eternal spring'. The climate is very inviting. The boys are gorgeous, but there are relatively more 'players' amongst them.  Bogota is cooler; they call it 'the freezer', so it's less popular with travelers. I like Medellin because of its modern architecture , shopping malls etc.  Bogota is more of an Old City which I like.

Bogota is 3x as big so naturally many more boys on Hornet, Grindr, Romeo etc. Climate in Medellin is more consistent and quite nice. The drive from airport to Medellin is really beautiful, reminds me of Austria.

I like them both but Bogota is just more diverse .  No matter where you go in Colombia, there are boys available!.  Flights are cheap and short between the 2 cities so if you are traveling a long way , why not see both?

Both Bogota and Medellin are great cities although very different. Visitors generally prefer smaller, less hectic Medellin with its perfect, year-round weather. Bogota is megapolis of 10 million people, has a pleasant old town (or to be precise, what's left of it after the riots in the 40's), but can be grey and cold at times. Tourists don't spend long there as it is a difficult place to fall in love from the first sight. I personally loved my time there, but mainly because of the nightlife and guys I met there. Bogota is one of the intellectual centres of South America, but you will hardly feel it if only visiting for few days.

Medellin seem to have more prepagos or at least they are more visible, maybe because of its smaller size. I found all my guys on grindr and never paid, but I'm not old and in a good shape. It was easy to pull in night clubs, but I'm absolutely rubbish at it.
