Bobblino, I knew there was direct airline service from Toronto, because the greatest number of foreigners here are Canadians from March to April.  Almost every decent house is rented by Canadians from Oct. to April.  If I get a house here, I will probably rent is out as well, because only intend to stay here a week a month during the winter months and not all during the summer.

Merida has a modern international airport,  small but nice.  There are now direct flights on American thru Miami and starting in April thru DFW.  I have been using United thru Houston, which is about a 1-1/2 hr flight

If pregnant, can be a concern, though the cases of infant microencephalopathy are rare compared to the prevalence of cases that seem clustered in n/e Brazil. Yucatan (Merida location) is one of the Mexican states with highest reported Zika exposure incidence and the highest spike this month. Puerto Rico is the hemispheric hotspot.

Any concerns about the spread of the Zika virus into Mexico?

Doesnt concern me i am not planning on getting anyone pregnant!  Seriously you can always find something to worry about anywhere!  Zika affecting gay males is near the bottom of my list of diseases to worry about at the present time.

Here is a examole of the Colonial style homes for sale in Merida! Most are between 100 and 200 years old. The historical society requires the outside not be changed but inside they can be.  This is one I am interested in but i will be looking at about a dozen.

Beautiful house and decent price compared to California....

I have an idea. Tomcal should buy his mexican house, import some of his favorite garotos from Brazil, and open a Brazilian style sauna. Would that work within the mexican laws? Think of the money all of us could save--Merida is much closer trip from the US

Lurker,  you are welcome to come down anytime to visit me! The one bar has at about midnight a "dance on the bar" on Fri. - Sun. Nights that allows anyone who wants to to get up on the long oblong bar to "dance" around and after each round around the bar lose some clothes! Usually around a dozen "customers" or so take part, all around 18 - 25 and after they go back and wait for someone to buy them drinks!  All this starts after 11:00 at night. But i don't really need to start a business down there! :-). And there are a lot of working guys on Grindr!

same thing at the bars outside Washington DC, the guys dance naked on the bar table, you put a dollar bill in their boots and you get to feel their nice big cocks.

these bars were in the suburbs of DC, and concentrated in one neighborhood.  It's been a few years since I last visited them, so things may have changed.  you can try google it. At the time, they were doing very well and were a lot of fun, the items on display were all HUGE.

I got back last weekend from spending a week in Merida looking at a house to buy.  I narrowed it down to 3!  On the 2nd leg of my flight from Houston to Merida i met a guy from DC who was also coming down to look at buying a house!  Over the next two days we ran into each other 3 times looking at the same houses! He ended up buying one of the ones that was in my final 3!  I confined my search to the histoical section of town where the majority of homes are in the 150+ yr old range! The insides have been competely updated but maintain the feel and look of these colonial era houses!  FloridaRob spent the week looking at them with me and then each night we went out and/or had a get together at my rental home(which is the one i am making a offer on after looking at 22 homes!) the second night there i invited a local escort over and Rob had a FB come over. We spent the time having drinks by the pool and then went to the bedrooms. After we got done and went to have another drink by the pool The guy wanted to know if i wanted to go to a club with him that his girlfriend works at as a stripper! Now this is like De la vous all over again and i am back in Rio!  He said we will have a good time! I told him i would like to but am really tired and need to go to bed! So at 1:30 i called Uber and got him to laeave with the promise that i would go to the club with him next time!  Btw, he was 22 and muscular and 1/4 Chinese and from Vera Cruz which i was told has a sizable Asian population.

Here are some photos of the house I am going to make a offer on.  The ceilings are 18' tall throughout the house except for the kitchen which is 12' .  There is 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms on the main floor and a master suite on the second floor by itself which would be a great guest suite!  and then a spiral staircase to the third floor rooftop deck with wet bar and bbq

Thanks for the updates and pics. I am sure everyone enjoys the HGTV house hunters photos, but would be even happier to see some photos of the "natural wildlife".

Amazing...!  i definitely need an invite to that place...

Question?  Why Mexico out of all the other countries you have visited?

Location and cost?  Ease of getting back to CA?

I have been putting thought into where to invite internationally....it makes the most sense to purchase somewhere I travel often so I would always have a place to stay as well as the option to to have rent...

thanks for your feedback...

Badboy81,  mexico was my choice for several reasons. 1) location in relation to the U.S. Was a very important reason because if for either health or family emergencies it is 1-1/2 hrs by plane from Houston which has a large Intern'l airport and in my case 2-1/2 hr flt home.  2) I wanted a place that was not only gay friendly but had a a thriving gay life and 3) that made economic sense for a 2nd home!  Merida provided all this with a population of 1,000,000 and while only 100 miles from Cancun considerably cheaper in all aspects!  It has a active cultural life but is not a resort city like its close neighbors, Cancun and Playa del Carmen and the homes are 1/2 the price or less!
