Guest MonkeySee Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 For the flying enthusiasts, there will be an international air and balloon show starting Friday, November 21 through Sunday, November 30. This is an international event and will feature many hot air balloons from around the world. The event will be held at Tamasart University. The university is close to Bira International Race Circuit on Highway 36, if that helps. You can receive more information by calling the Pattaya call center at 1337. This might be a place to go with your special young man. Quote
Guest topjohn5 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 That sounds like fun MS.... To bad I'm not there yet. Are there other aircraft other than balloons since its an air and balloon show? Are you a pilot MS....I'm a private pilot myself....but have never flown in a balloon..... In the last few years I have jumped (skydived) more than flown anyway, lol Quote
Guest MonkeySee Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Are there other aircraft other than balloons since its an air and balloon show? I have not attended this airshow and so I am not sure. I should think they would have other aircraft, but will report back, if I am able to attend. Are you a pilot MS....I'm a private pilot myself....but have never flown in a balloon..... No, I am not a pilot. I do not have the deep pockets that it takes to be involved in aviation, today. I do have several friends that are pilots and I tag along to the many airshows they go to. One friend has what I call, an air force. He has several old military planes, as well as a couple Convair 440's, a DC-3 and the list goes on. Quote
Guest topjohn5 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 My pockets are not so deep but it's a family rule (my father was a fighter pilot, WW2 and Korea).....and he was paying the bill so........ The family rule is you have to at solo before you can drive a car! My 2 sisters solo'ed but I went on and got my license when I was 16-17. My father has a plane but since it's a twin I rent one sometimes. But, as I mentioned I prefer to jump out of them instead, lol. Quote
Guest MonkeySee Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 But, as I mentioned I prefer to jump out of them instead, lol. In my younger days, I had an urge to do some sky-diving. Never did give it a try. I have done some bungee jumping and that was a real blast. My pilot friends do not understand why you would want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane! To each his own. Why your pilot friends or anyone else for that matter would not wish to jump out of a perfectly good plane should be very obvious. Maybe this picture will help you to understand. Quote

Yes, those were my fathers exact words when I told him I was going the first time, lol. He wa sshot down twice and had to eject so maybe he feels a little differently than I. Never been bungy jumping but i do hang gliding....and for true insanity base jumping..... And we call them "meat missiles" KohrTose in skydiving vernacular, hahaha! Quote

Have you jumped from El Capitan in Yosemite Park or just your local skyscraper? I was scared shitless the first time I bungee jumped and that was only at a commercial gig off a platform over a pool. I can not image having the balls to jump off a building, antenna, or cliff. Tell me more. Quote

Tell me more. Yes, well I have done a lot of extreme sports but some like base jumping I have retired from, lol. Base jumping is a serious persuit due to all the factors and much different then skydiving. You frequently have less time to get stable and deploy so the launch is very important and also you have little time to pick your landing spot...not to mention hitting the object your jumping from. Oh, and you don't bother with a back-up chute......you'll never have time if you need it anyway, lol! So, I got only one of the 4 types done....never did the B, A or E but, did get the S completed. If you don't know what I'm talking about base is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span and Earth (and some add Balloon so it's a stutter BBASE jumping). You have to do all 4 to get a designated number (only a few over 1000 people have done it I think). So, the only one I did was long ago and legal. It was the Span (bridge) in Idaho called the Perrine Bridge. It's actually the only place in the USA you can jump without a permit. It's a risky jump though because you don't have much time to get open since it's under 500 feet (5.5 seconds if you don't deploy). The wind is a big factor too. But at least if you miscalculate a touch on the landing you have the water, hahahaha. In real skydiving I almost bit it once when I got tangled in my partially open chute.......only my 11th jump ever, hahaha....... Quote
Guest topjohn5 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 So, You all might enjoy a little excitement. Petronas Towers is a popular illegal spot for base jumping and here is one successful jump followed by a bad jump (but he survived after his chute opened the wrong direction...into the towers, lol). I've also included my favorite short compilation video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZM_K2rq2IM...feature=related Quote
