Rio in March 2017

Hello guys

I'm looking to visit Rio in March 2017. Last two visits I was able to meet up with guys off of here for a beer, is anyone planning a trip next March?

Also, usually I stay in hotels but will try and get an apartment in Ipanema this time, can anyone suggest a decent reasonably priced apartment? Can you send me the link? Also, do the apartments provide clean towels and linen etc., to cater for a week or two? Please message me direct if you prefer not to post openly.

Lastly, when I was there in April Le Boy was closing for refurbishment. Has it reopened or does it look like it has closed? I'd be looking for something to do of a night time.

Many thanks in advance.

Mikey

I have previously viewed apt suggestions in some of the long Rio threads here, but this involved a few patient hours scanning, worth it for me due to several visits past 18 months, but I was not focused on accommodation.

The "landsape" of location convenience has just radically changed due to the new metro line 4 extension spanning east to west across Ipanema ... now 3 stops to Leblon district. Previously, transit across these few kilometres necessitated bus or taxi to Gen Osorio stn if Metro line further northeast or veering north was the desired target.

Personally, I use Airbnb for "entire place" or "private room" in someone's home. It can be "iffy" in Brazil, so for longer stays I tend not to "lock in" to one choice.

I am Rio bound January for a month. I have often found friendly co-tourists at Club 117 to hang out with for drinks and/or a meal outside of the venue.

Biggest harsh lessons have been: failing to anticipate visa acquisition delay, and getting 'dinged' at ATMs (not card scan scam, but the currency bill slots not properly stocked so an irreversible debit along with a bank rep polite and sympathetic in Portuguese but not able to mediate). I also got dengue fever following a 'skeeter's sit-down buffet on my calf. Statistically the cards were stacked in my favor epidemiologically ... just bad luck. Oh, and did I say you might need to try several ATMs just to find one that works, even when you are not debited due to unfilled bill slots behind the screen?

Using debit or credit at shops and venues has been consistently functional. I had a bit of a panic when one sauna with garotos happened to reject my checkout due to a faulty card machine, and I had to have a tantrum with a useless staff member to be able to be allowed to leave and bring back cash later. (Buddy, get a machine that works, check the rude-itude) All my cards worked fine at restos and 117 later on.

But this winter is my 5th trip ... The ups override the thrills, chills and spills of the lows.

I seem to be rambling off-topic viz accommodations.

Happy trails next Spring!
