I am soon going to spend some time in Madrid. Does anyone have an update on the bar Black and White? Is it worthwhile to visit Adan sauna ? I appreciate any info.

Recently came back from Madrid. Before I kind of liked Black and White , but this time it was a big disappointment . Unfortunately nothing happens in the bar before 1:30 am. The number of boys is very little and mostly skinny and dirty looking East European Gypsies. They are quite aggressive and immediately come up to you and ask for a drink or propose sex. I saved a lot of money, because no one and I mean no one was remotely near being attractive. I went there about 10 times , every time hoping  I would at least see one decent boy, but it didn't happen . I guess the good old days are gone. Probably there is more action in the seedy sauna which I didn't visit and on internet.

1:30am and aggressive boys.   Both are deal breakers.    Although skinny is a good point.

If I just go on a holiday within Europe, I don't want to shift my body clock by 3 hours or more, which is what it would be if findinga boy after 1:30 & maybe not sleeping until 2:30.       Needs to be the internet or the sauna.

July, 2017. Madrid is so nice now, but so hot... Anyway, I went to Adán. Although the place needs a lot ot improving, there were a good group of working guys... As a strong and exotic looking Dominican (40 €) or some Brazilians... And of course Gay Romeo is booming with beautiful men. Either in the escort or in the regular section (and here for free or for fee) is quite easy to find some company.

I enclosed the pic of a wonderful guy I just met, from the escort section of GRomeo (as spanish_guy22)

Thanks Episevilla for being the most recent poster on Sauna Adan. There has been some conflicting info here on whether the sauna is still open.  Can anyone else confirm it is still open? The place seems to have a bad reputation with many who have commented.  Is it just that the place needs renovating? I wouldn't call the saunas in Rio luxury palaces but they serve the purpose fine. Or is just a limited selection of guys? Mostly just looking for updated info!

I am curious as well. At that address is a guesthouse tethered to booking.com, etc, San Bernardo Rooms, but it does not list a phone number. I would be willing to call and ask: by the by is there not a sauna "Adan" on the lower levels?

Episevilla, can you also provide insight as to why all the listed numbers for Adan are "out of service". Seeing as you were there this summer?

I have been wanting to see Madrid for the first time, but held back by this recurrent uncertainty about an acceptable if not worldclass rentboy sauna.

Ok, sorry it took too long for answering... Sauna Adan is still open, and I do not know why some sites announce its closing. Many years ago it closed sauna Plaza, of warm memories, but Adan is still open. Whether its poor condition as facilities and cabines reaches the standard of Thermas Barcelona, this is of course another question. But it is worth the visit, let's say around 5 pm.

Today I went to Adan, around 18.30. ten or twelve working guys, some from North Africa, some from Brazil and Dominican Republic, even a few from Eastern Europe. Not much customers. I met a nice and handsome, hardbodied Dominican and was great. 40 euros. Facilities need some work, but it's great the place remain open!

The facilities were fine (definitely not as nice as Thermas in Barcelona”

If the free cabins are worse than Thermas, count me out.

The Roma of Europe get a bad rep.  They've received shoddy treatment for generations.  They were victims of the Holocaust.  If they were treated with more respect, maybe they wouldn't be so desperate.  As an Indigenous man from Canada I know first hand how brown-skinned people are treated in the Gay community.  Not very nice.

Why do gay men frequent filthy saunas? Why do the owners refuse to clean up the place?  Because they can get away with it.  They're greedy bastards.  Why spend the money to offer a clean venue, when it can they can pocket the money?

Years ago I was confronted by a security guard at a gay bar in Toronto.  He was furious at an Indigenous gay couple and he approached me and said "all you 'Indians' are no good.  Any more trouble from "you people" and I will bar every last one of you."  I handed him my drink and walked out.  And I never went back.  I thought, why should I spend my money at an establishment that stereotypes my people as all being "no good".  Demand decent treatment and you will receive it.

Hi All

Excuse my igorance - I've never been to a sauna before - But I'm visiting Madrid in spring and I was considering a visit to Adan based on a couple of the reviews above (from tidewater). Even if I don't like it, it would be nice to check it out anyway.

But I have a lot of questions. What do actually DO in a sauna like Adan? I mean, what's the set up? I read on another thread that you need to change into "sauna attire"? What is this? And can you not stay in your clothes? And is there an area to hang out or get a drink? And how do you engage the guys?

Hi Jack

You specifically mentioned my review so I hope I can help.  We all had a very first time so questions are understandable.  First, I have no idea which post mentioned “sauna attire” but there really is no such thing in my experience.  When you arrive, there is first a front desk where you will pay an entrance fee and you will be given a towel, a locker key and flip-flops.  It is good to know your shoe size in European size (for instance, US size 12 is 46 in Europe/Spain). You simply go to your locker, take off all your street clothes and store, and put on the towel and flip-flops. I maybe have seen a few people at different saunas stay in street clothes but I think it appears a little odd (others may disagree).  Yes, there is a bar area to get a drink at Adan and every sauna I have visited. They charge it to the number on your locker key and you pay a total as you exit. Engaging the guys really isn’t an issue. They will one by one begin to engage with you and quickly. During my first visits, I found the hardest thing initially was finding a polite way of turning guys down (I usually say something like “I am just hanging out for now”). They will then look for someone else and a new guy is sure to approach you soon.  When you find one you are interested in spending time with, they will usually begin my strokzing your leg, kissing you etc.  You then try to communicate your preferences (for me, things like top or bottom, will they deep-kiss, will they cum, etc.). Then, you negotiate a price (I try to get them to agree that is a “final” price and not open to further negotiation).  I would recommend personally that tips are appropriate for those that go “above and beyond” but I know others here say “never.”  The guys will lead you to a cabin (in some saunas, you go to the front desk to retrieve a key...which means that you will have the room added to your sauna bill...but that isn’t the case in the two Spanish “rent boy” saunas).  After you have your fun, , you meet the guy at your locker and pay him (typically after a shower).  These are the basics I would think for a first-timer but happy to answer any additional questions you may have!  Do keep in mind, the saunas in Brazil and Barcelona are certainly more highly recommended but there is no reason to miss Adan if you are in Madrid.

I was thinking of writing something extremely similar to this as an answer but then got distracted. Thanks, you saved me time!

My only different advice, @JackR  is that if you see a guy you like, you can just go and say “hello”, you don’t have to wait for him to come to see you (then follow the script as given perfectly by @tidewater here above).

Dont worry about the possibility of confusing clients and working boys, or approaching a guy that isn’t working, they really look very different, that has never happened to me once, neither in Zurich, nor in Brasil.

Thanks for the great info guys! I was worried that I didn't know what I was getting into. But that was really helpful.

I'm going there hopefully in spring and will definitely make a visit. I will let you know how it goes!

If there is anything you are unclear about, ask one of the rentboys. They know the ins and outs (they work there most days) and are often very keen to make you feel comfortable talking to them, because it can result in being hired.
