It must be getting hard

It must be getting hard to make any type of money in Pattaya right now.

Yesterday, I received a call from a Thai that owns and rents rooms in Center Condo. She called and said that she needed a 3 million baht loan because there are no customers. She would be happy to give me a Chatnut(???) title to a unit if I could help her.

Then a little later I talked to the couple that own a lawn bowling business. They said it was so bad they were not going to open until later in the day.

But to offset that news, when I went to Sunee Plaza I asked Oud of Oud's how business was. He said it has been good and he has hired more hosts.

Looking into a few gogo bars it seemed that it is mixed bag. Some had no customers and a few seemed to be ok.

You're referring to a 'chanut,' which is essentially the same as a title deed. Unless it is registered in the Land Office, in your name, it isn't worth the paper it's written on. Before ever accepting it as a form of collateral, make sure to consult a competent Thai attorney.

I'm a regular visitor of a Dutch/Belgian hotel/restaurant in Pattaya. The hotel has 18 rooms: fully booked, the restaurant has plenty of guests daily, the 5 houses and 3 condo's under the same ownership are rented out for the coming months.

Of course, the time of lay back and wait for guests is over; some kind of marketing efforts must be made nowadays. It's so easy to blame currencies, crises and other difficult to control reasons for bad business. Take Oud's.......their (most succesful) marketing is the positive mouth-to-mouth 'advertising' because of the fact that this bar offers good service, a homey environment, friendly staff and management and price-worthy drinks.
