The Museu do Amanha opens today to the public (for free) for thrity-six hours starting this morning. After Sunday, the entry fee will be a reasonable 10Reais. There is also a museum pass including the MAR art museum, also located on the Praca Maua with a discounted entry.

Designed by Santiago Calatrava, the final published cost is actually three times the quoted price in the linked THE GUARDIAN article. 650million Reais versus the 230million quoted. Knowing how things to work, I suspect final price will be even higher. Calatrava's supposed inspiration is a bromeliad. To me, either the back of an alligator, scales of a snake or the long and thick dick of one of the hung garotos de programa at Meio Mundo.

But I have been by the Praca Maua in the last two months and the area has never looked better. The whole area is very cool as a large plaza closed to all vehicular traffic except for the new VLT tram line. Between the two museums, as well as the Banco do Brasil and Correios Cultural Centers a couple of blocks away, it does make a nice way to spend the day before heading over to Meio Mundo. I just hope it doesn't suffer the fate of Amsterdam's NEMO by Renzo Piano.
